- Manage all components of the Trauma Registry, including data collection, abstraction, entry, retrieval, statistical conversion, and validation
- Abstract data from electronic health records, Trauma Activation Logs, PI Data sheets, and other sources
- Assign ICD-10-CM/PCS and AIS codes, including injury severity scores
- Identify activation levels and report to Charge Capture for reimbursement
- Identify records meeting hospital, state, and national registry inclusion criteria
- Apply NTDB, TQIP, State Registry, and hospital data dictionary rules
- Report audit filter inconsistencies and documentation improvement opportunities to trauma program leadership
- Query physicians to clarify code assignments
- Analyze records for trauma quality assurance standards and maintain 95% accuracy
- Identify invalid data and implement corrective action
- Maintain database security, privacy, backups, updates, and NTDS compliance
- Liaise with registry software vendors and WHS IT personnel
- Extract, analyze, and present registry statistics and produce quality assurance reports
- Complete timely uploads to NTDB, TQIP, and the State Trauma Registry
- Attend Trauma Services meetings and participate in the Georgia Committee of Trauma Excellence Trauma Registry Subcommittee
- Support regional and state trauma system development
Requirements
- High School Diploma / GED required
- Associate degree in Health Information Management preferred
- Minimum 2 years Trauma Registry coding experience with RHIT required, or minimum 3 years Trauma Registry coding experience without RHIT required
- RHIT, CSTR, and CAISS certifications listed as preferred
- ATS Trauma Registry Course (or equivalent course for trauma registrars) required upon hire
- AAAM AIS-08 (AIS-15 preferred) Coding Course required upon hire
- Proficient in computer entry and data extraction
- ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding required
- AIS coding required
- Computer/data entry experience
- Ability to communicate with various members of the healthcare team
- Ability to use Excel and Word and have basic computer operational knowledge
- Epic and 3M experience
- Minimum of 8 continuing education hours of trauma-related continuing education annually
- 20 CEUs during reporting cycle required for RHIT recertification
