Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals is seeking a Trauma Registrar to manage data collection, entry, and reporting for the Trauma Center. The role supports injury research, epidemiology, and performance improvement by turning registry data into actionable insights.

The candidate will abstract records, ensure data quality, and collaborate with regional teams. Prior HIM or trauma registry experience preferred; AHIMA RHIT and CTR certifications recommended.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Preferred: Certified Trauma Registrar Certification (CTR).
• RHIT certification preferred for HIM professionals.

Responsibilities

• Identifies trauma patients meeting inclusion criteria from daily ED logs, OR, and admissions.
• Abstracts accurate information for the Trauma Registry promptly.
• Reviews and interprets data from available patient information systems.
• Reconciles missing/conflicting data; coordinates with outside agencies for records.
• Collects, enters, and submits data to the state as required.
• Generates monthly dashboards and routine/annual reports; handles special requests.
• Participates in the Trauma Committee and statewide trauma meetings.
• Completes registry-specific training and pursues professional development.
• Assumes primary responsibility for accurate, concurrent trauma registry data.
• Reviews and validates data regularly to ensure quality.
