Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Trauma Registrar at High Point Medical Center to identify Trauma, Burn and EGS patients and abstract data for required registries. The role codes diagnoses and procedures in CPT/ICD-9/10 and maintains databases and summaries for timely reporting.

Responsibilities include data quality, inter-rater reliability, and supporting research and education across the Trauma Services team. Full-time, 40 hours weekly, 8am-5pm, Monday–Friday.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required.
  • CPC, CSTR, or RHIT preferred.
  • Medical Terminology and Anatomy/Physiology courses with two years of ICD-9/10 coding experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a comprehensive listing of admitted trauma/burn/EGS patients from ED logs and census.
  • Ensures accuracy of Trauma/Burn/EGS Registry data and participates in data validation.
  • Maintains documentation of all registry activity.
  • Provides data and reports to support trauma/burn/EGS research and education.
  • Keeps informed about registry requirements through ongoing education.
  • Assists in other Trauma Services duties as directed by the Program Manager.
  • Promotes teamwork and professional communication within the department.

The Trauma Registrar is responsible for the identification of all Trauma, Burn and Emergency General Surgery (EGS) patients. Abstracts information from the medical record necessary for the respective registry requirements and codes the diagnoses and procedures in CPT/ICD 9-10 codes. Develops and maintains all statistical databases, generates registry report and maintains Trauma/Burn/EGS registry summaries.

Job Requirements & Preferences
  • High school diploma required
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Specialist in Trauma Registries (CSTR), or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) preferred
  • Medical Terminology course and Anatomy/Physiology Course with two years of ICD-9/10 coding experience preferred
Key Responsibilities
  • Maintains a comprehensive listing of admitted trauma/burn/EGS patients through careful review of Emergency Department admission logs, Trauma Patient Report, and patient census. Ensures confidentiality of registry data.
  • Ensures accuracy of Trauma/Burn/EGS Registry data. Participates in all inter-rater reliability and data validation activities.
  • Maintains documentation of all registry activity.
  • Provides data and reports to support trauma/burn/EGS research, education and associated activities.
  • Maintains current knowledge of registry requirements through collaboration with peers and attendance at all required continuing education.
  • Assists in other aspects of the WFUBMC Trauma Services Department as deemed appropriate by the Trauma Program Manager.
  • Promotes a cooperative work environment by utilizing appropriate communication skills, interpersonal relationships and team building.
  • Maintains personal responsibility for keeping informed about changes in policy/procedures.
  • Participates in departmental educational offerings and staff meetings.
