Requires RN license, TNCC/ATCN, ENPC/PALS, ACLS, and a Bachelor’s in nursing; four years of progressive nursing experience. Strong writing and public speaking skills are essential for community engagement and program

  • Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum (TNCC) or Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN).
  • Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
  • AdvancedCardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing; four years of progressive nursing experience.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the Trauma Department Outreach Education programs to ensure community engagement and collaboration with external partners.
  • Implement, monitor, evaluate and report on outreach education and prevention programs.
  • Serve as program and community liaison, perform public speaking and education to support Trauma Center goals.
  • Maintain a database for all outreach educational programs.
  • Develop and present prevention and education programs for the community, patients, and staff.
  • Identify ways to improve work processes and patient education; monitor results to support department goals.

Job description

Location: New Parkland Hospital

Work schedule: Full-time Days (40 hours/week), 7:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m., Occasion evening and weekends for special schedule events.

Primary Purpose

Responsible for providing the Trauma Outreach Educational and Prevention Programs by assisting in program design, implementation, and evaluation of program initiatives.

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Must have a bachelor's degree in nursing
Equivalent Education and/or Experience
  • Must have four years of progressive nursing experience.
  • May have an equivalent combination of education and/or experience in lieu of specific education and/or experience as stated above.
Degree/License
  • Typically requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree and may require a master's degree in a related clinical field.
  • Requires clinical license and/or certification typically obtained through advanced education and advanced practical knowledge of job area obtained through extensive clinical experience.

Required Certifications / Licensure
  • Must have current RN license or valid temporary license with the Texas Board of Nursing; or valid Compact RN license.
  • Must have certification in Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum (TNCC) or Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN).
  • Must have Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
  • Must have Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Skills or Special Abilities
  • Provides care to assigned patient population in accordance with the current State of Texas Nurse Practice Act, established protocols, multidisciplinary plan of care, and clinical area specific standards.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with professional nursing staff, medical staff and allied health professionals attending classes.
  • Must have superior writing skills to compose course outlines, objectives and manuals. Must demonstrate competence in technical skills and knowledge related to Emergency Services.
  • Must be organized and creative in the educational process for both individual and large group classes.
  • Must have exemplary clinical skills in Emergency and Trauma Nursing.
  • Must be able to develop a positive, cooperative working relationship with community providers. Must demonstrate patient centered/patient valued behaviors.

  • Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve community relationships and partnerships through outreach education and prevention strategies.
  • Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
  • Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impact the area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinates the Trauma Department Outreach Educational programs to ensure customer satisfaction, implementation and monitoring of performance improvement and provides an avenue for increased communication with outside agencies. Provides program design as needed.
  • Implements, monitors, evaluates and reports on details regarding the outreach education and prevention programs.
  • Serves as a program and community liaison and resource person, performs public speaking and education, etc., that support the missions, goals and objectives of Trauma Center, while establishing and cultivating positive working relationships to maximize interactive cooperative relationships.
  • Maintains a database for all outreach educational programs.
  • Develops and presents prevention programs and education programs for the community, patients, and staff, while providing patient centered/patient valued care for all internal and external customers of Parkland.
  • Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction for patient education. Make recommendations to supervisor, implement and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals of the department and Parkland.
  • Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements and trends in emergency nursing and trauma, and prevention strategies by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, and actively participating in professional organizations. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
  • Serves on committees as requested to serve as an active contributor and participant in achieving Emergency Services education and meeting the Parkland goals.

Career Type: Clinical

Individual contributors who come in direct physical contact with patients and have responsibility in a clinical discipline or specialty focused on patient needs and/or delivery of high-quality care. Most of the time is spent on the delivery of clinical care. May spend a portion of their time on implementation or design of clinical processes, programs and policies. Senior clinical roles, such as physicians, may also spend ~20% of their overall time on managerial responsibilities; however, most of their time is spent on direct patient care.
