Job summary

Healthcare for the Homeless - Houston seeks a Medical Assistant to support clinical and front desk operations at Caroline Clinic, Cathedral Clinic, and Reed Family Clinic. The role includes patient intake, vitals, basic screening, phlebotomy, immunizations, and EHR documentation.

The ideal candidate has CMA or MA training, CPR/BLS, and at least 2 years in patient-facing care. Bilingual skills are preferred to serve diverse patients in Houston.

Qualifications

• Phlebotomy and CLIA-waived testing experience.
• Proficiency with EHR systems and patient registration.
• Current CPR/BLS certification.
• Experience in front desk responsibilities and patient check-in.

Responsibilities

• Prepare exam rooms and patients per infection-control procedures.
• Collect vital signs, medical history and chief complaint.
• Assist with exams and minor procedures.
• Perform phlebotomy and point-of-care testing.
• Administer vaccines and clinic medications as ordered.
• Document care accurately in the EHR.
• Coordinate patient flow to minimize wait times.
• Greet patients and assist with check-in and registrations.
• Verify demographics and basic eligibility screening.
• Schedule appointments, referrals and diagnostic services.
• Answer calls and patient portal messages; provide guidance.
• Support care coordination and communication across teams.
