Job summary

Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago is seeking a Child Life Specialist to apply family-centered care and trauma-informed approaches in pediatrics.

You will assess psychosocial needs, provide coping support for patients and families, and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to integrate emotional safety into daily care. Responsibilities include leadership in education, conducting trainings, and contributing to quality improvement projects that promote developmentally

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required.
  • Current CCLS credential within 12 months of hire required.
  • 1–2 years of experience preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 6 months of hire preferred.
  • Spanish language abilities strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Integrates emotional safety into patient and family care through trauma-informed interventions.
  • Develops therapeutic relationships to assess emotional support and coping needs.
  • Documents interventions in the medical record per professional standards.
  • Advocates for psychosocial, developmental, spiritual, and cultural needs of the child and family.
  • Demonstrates commitment to anti-bias practices and diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to achieve patient care goals and systemic improvements.
  • Participates in team conferences, rounds, and orientation; supports staff education.
