Job summary

Albany Med Health System is seeking a Physician Assistant for the Acute Care Surgery & Critical Care (ACS&CC) team in Albany, NY. The PA will support ED coverage during peak trauma and surgical hours and collaborate with attending surgeons, residents, and the ACS&CC care team.

The role requires NYS licensure and NCCPA certification, with 1–2 years of relevant surgical experience preferred. BLS/ACLS are required, and duties include ED evaluations, wound care, and care coordination.

Qualifications

• Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
• Current NYS licensure and national certification (NCCPA).
• BLS and ACLS certifications required.
• 1-2 years of relevant experience in surgical or inpatient care preferred.

Responsibilities

• Represent the ACS&CC team in the Emergency Room as a provider.
• Provide back up for inpatient medical-surgical floor ACS APP providers.
• Perform ED consultations with comprehensive patient assessments, histories, and physical examinations for the ACS&CC service line.
• Perform procedures and wound care as required in the ED.
• Deliver care to patients of the ACS&CC division that are "boarded" in the ED.
• Respond to Level 3 traumas and provide trauma consultations.
• Coordinate patient discharges and ensure follow-up care is arranged.
• Respond to Emergency Department ACS&CC consults and provide timely evaluations.
• Document all clinical encounters and procedures accurately in the EMR.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and team members.
• Effectively partner with other members of the ACS & CC team (surgeons, APP, residents, medical students).
• Weekday or Weekend Shifts
• Conduct one quality improvement project annually
• Support the mission of education, research and quality
• Contribute to care team meetings
