What We Are Looking For!

TRASH TRUCK DRIVER - SIDE LOAD

POSITION SUMMARY

The driver operates a truck that transports solid waste to and from specified destinations. The truck size is more than 5 tons.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Operate a residential recycling/solid waste collection truck and ancillary equipment on assigned routes, providing excellent customer service.
• Drive the vehicle from the right side when collecting house-to-house, using a joystick to control the arm and lifting mechanism to grab the collection cart and mechanically raise and dump into the hopper of the Side Loader.
• Exercise caution near mailboxes, water meters, landscaping, electrical lines, trees, or other obstructions.
• Prepare, receive, and provide documentation for the delivery and pickup of containers to ensure timely service.
• Load, secure, and unload the truck, following all safety procedures at landfills and transfer stations.
• Maintain radio or telephone communication with dispatchers and supervisors for instructions or updates.
• Maintain route sheets, vehicle inspection records, and adhere to all federal and state DOT regulations.
• Deliver solid waste/recyclables to designated disposal/recycling facilities.
• Load solid waste, yard waste, and recyclables into the vehicle.
• Operate equipment to compact waste into the vehicle.
• Use prescribed techniques to operate the truck and equipment, minimizing mechanical failures.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and report daily.
• Report any vehicle mechanical problems immediately.
• Maintain route quality, safety, and service standards.
• Keep the vehicle interior and exterior clean.
• Identify and remove prohibited waste items.
• Complete daily inspections and comply with safety meetings, operational standards, and policies.
• Maintain a valid Texas CDL and DOT medical card.
• Report safety and service incidents immediately to the supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• At least 3 years of satisfactory driving experience with Class A or B vehicles preferred.
• Excellent communication skills for dealing professionally with customers, dispatchers, mechanics, and drivers.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
• Excellent driving skills.
• Basic computer skills, including use of tablets and applications.
• Pass drug screening and criminal background check.
• Successfully complete written and road tests.
• Meet all Federal & State DOT requirements.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to pass a DOT physical.
• Ability to climb into and out of the truck multiple times daily using 3 points of contact.
• Capable of sitting for long periods and walking short distances.
• Ability to bend, stoop, crawl, and squat for inspections.
• Work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Good vision and hearing to operate a commercial vehicle safely.
• Work in a moderately noisy environment.

EDUCATION

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATIONS

• Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License.

Company supplies safety boots, uniforms, and PPE.
