Job summary

Chick-fil-A Supply in Olathe, KS seeks a Transportation Supervisor (Night) to lead a drivers and navigators team at the MDC. You will ensure safe, efficient outbound distribution and achieve KPIs while supporting Chick-fil-A’s vision and values.

The role requires 5+ years in private fleet operations, strong leadership, and knowledge of food-service distribution. It offers a night schedule (4:00 PM–3:00 AM) four days a week and opportunities for growth.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; Bachelor’s preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience with private fleet operations.
  • Knowledge of food service distribution, outbound transportation procedures, and safety standards.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to be on-call weekends/evenings as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Motivate, staff, schedule, and support a dynamic team responsible for outbound transportation tasks.
  • Establish relationships with Operators to align MDC and Restaurant operations and balance needs.

Overview

Transportation Supervisor (Night) will lead a team of drivers and navigators our Chick-fil-A Supply Distribution Center in Olathe KS. This individual, in collaboration with other leaders, will be responsible for executing safe and effective operations that meet the needs of the organization and its employees. Reporting directly to the Transportation Operations Manager, this person will lead a team dedicated to delivering exceptional customer service for Chick-fil-A restaurant Operators while ensuring safety and achievement of several critical key performance indicators (KPIs). The Transportation Supervisor will enable supply chain innovation unique to the food service industry. Most importantly, this person will lead in a way that supports Chick-fil-A’s vision and strategy while embodying the corporate purpose.

Schedule: This role follows a base schedule of 4:00 PM to 3:00 AM - 4 Days/Week.

  • You will need to be on-call during weekends and evenings as required by business and team needs.
  • On average you can expect to work 10 hours days (about 45 hours per week); however, this may vary according business needs.
  • The schedule will be assigned according to business needs, and flexibility is needed during weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts.

Equipment: You will have the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art equipment and around-the-clock resources, including:

  • Tractor: Brand new Kenworth T680 automatic tractor with leather, air ride seats; truck GPS; rear and side view cameras when reversing
  • Trailer: 48” Great Dane featuring electric side lift gates with gutter guard and tandem lights over rear tires.
  • Power Sleds: Battery-powered pallet jacks to easily move product into restaurants.
  • Mobile Devices: Samsara devices, a mobile app that shows where to park and unload at each restaurant and ELD charging in the cab.
  • In House Maintenance Team: Chick-fil-A Supply onsite mechanics keep equipment running smoothly.
Responsibilities

Leading Teams with Communication and Care:

  • Motivate, staff, schedule, and support a dynamic team responsible for delivering, transporting, unloading, and completing other outbound distribution tasks
  • Establish working relationships with store Operators as appropriate, driving the seamless integration between the MDC and Restaurant operations and act as a liaison, balancing the needs of the Operator with the capabilities of the operation
  • Deliver high service levels to Operators and achieve Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Train and develop a strong team
  • Collaborate with the transportation manager regarding staff performance, identify and drive areas of improvement, and recognize team members’ outstanding performance
  • Support the Chick-fil-A vision and strategy by building a culture that aligns with the Chick-fil-A Supply values of care, safety, and excellence
  • Work closely with the MDC Leadership Team, CFA Supply Services, and various business partners to ensure optimal alignment and collaboration
  • Complete other activities as required, as needs arise

Safety:

  • Troubleshoot issues with drivers during deliveries
  • Conduct restaurant delivery audits to ensure outstanding driver performance and to identify areas of operational improvements

    Efficiency and Organization:

    • Optimize driver/route assignments, including ensuring compliance with federal, state and local DOT guidelines regarding routing time and drivers’ hours of service
    • Lead the processing of trip reports and other documentation
    • Monitor data (i.e. payroll entries) to enable effective tracking of expenditure
    • Support budget management of outbound transportation at the DC
    Required Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities)

    Education:

    • High school degree or similar

    Experience:

    • 5+ years of experience with private fleet operations
    • Demonstrated experience with and functional knowledge of food service distribution, including outbound transportation procedures and regulations, transportation equipment, and performance metrics
    • Working knowledge of innovations in supply chain and warehouse operations
    • Knowledge of and ability to ensure compliance with general safety standards, quality specifications, and governmental requirements
    • Demonstrated ability to value both relationships and results and to put others above themselves
    • Strong aptitude to think critically, solve problems, and drive improvements in a professional and respectful manner
    • Exceptional organization, attention to detail, and communication skills
    • Strong ability to negotiate and resolve conflict by navigating confrontational situations to ensure all parties are treated with honor, dignity, and respect

    Physical Ability:

    • Ability to complete physically demanding work, including consistently lifting up to 65 pounds.

    Schedule:

    • Availability for on-call support on weekends, holidays, and evenings and shift flexibility, as needed.

    Travel:

    • This position requires you to live within 60 miles of our distribution center.
    • 15% for Chick-fil-A Operator/market/DC visits, supplier visits, and related conferences

    Proficient in English (reading, writing, and speaking):

    to safely follow verbal instructions, complete documentation and paperwork, and accurately interpret labels, pick lists, scanner prompts, signage, and company communications.

    Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree

    Experience:

    • 7+ years of experience with private fleet operations
    • Experience in warehouse operations, supporting in a food distribution or food manufacturing environment
    • Class A CDL
    • Knowledge of federal, state and local government regulatory requirements for driver labor scheduling and safety
    • Demonstrated success in operations and people leadership
    • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access; experience with ERP, WMS, and TMS solutions
