Job summary

OneBlood in Saint Petersburg, FL seeks a supervisor to oversee courier staff and daily operations. You will schedule routes, guide day-to-day work, and coordinate transport of blood, blood products, campus mail, supplies, and medical equipment between processing centers, branches, blood drive sites and hospitals.

The role requires the ability to work 2:00pm–10:30pm, Monday through Friday, with schedule flexibility.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Six months to one year route delivery and supervisory experience preferred.
• Valid driver’s license in good standing.
• Ability to delegate, manage and supervise effectively.
• Ability to operate a motor vehicle for extended periods.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Proficient with digital technology and Microsoft Office.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Supervises courier staff; schedule work; provides day-to-day work direction; provide input on hiring, performance evaluations and corrective counseling.
• Receives requests for transport of materials by phone and email and dispatch accordingly.
• Efficiently and accurately transports blood products, campus mail, supplies and medical equipment using assigned vehicle.
• Practices safe driving skills and adheres to all driving regulations.
• Loads and unloads vehicles using safe techniques with lifting, pushing and pulling.
• Delivers inventory to designated points within a route; may travel with packages using public transit in emergencies.
• Keeps log of items received and delivered; documents daily activities as required.
• Conducts basic vehicle safety/readiness checks and reports problems.
• Works as back-up on-call driver for other shifts or routes as needed.
• Notifies supervisor of concerns, issues and delays.

Overview

Daily supervisory responsibilities of assigned courier staff. Transport blood, blood products, campus mail, supplies, and medical equipment between processing/distribution centers, branches, blood drive sites and hospitals.

Position Schedule: The schedule for this position is 2:00pm - 10:30pm Monday - Friday. Schedule flexibility is required.

Responsibilities

• Supervises assigned courier staff; schedule work; provides day-to-day work direction; provide input on hiring, performance evaluations and corrective counseling
• Receives requests for transport of materials by phone and email and dispatch accordingly
• Efficiently and accurately transports unprocessed/processed blood and blood products, campus mail, supplies and medical equipment utilizing assigned vehicle (van/small truck)
• Practices safe driving skills during transport; adhere to all driving regulations
• Loads and unloads vehicles practicing safe techniques with lifting, pushing and pulling
• Delivers inventory to specified points within a designated route (may include branches, hospitals, field trip sites, headquarters, & mobile units); may be required to deliver (travel with) packages utilizing public transportation in emergency situations (e.g. airline, bus, train etc.)
• Keeps log of items received and delivered; document daily activities as required
• Conducts basic safety/readiness checks of assigned vehicle prior to departure per SOP; report any problems or mechanical issues
• Works as back-up on-call driver for other shifts or routes as needed
• Notifies supervisor of any concerns, issues and/or delays

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent. Six months to one year route delivery and supervisory experience preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND DESIGNATIONS: Valid driver's License in good standing.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Ability to delegate, manage and supervise effectively
• Ability to operate a motor vehicle and drive vehicle for extended periods of time
• Ability to drive city streets and freeways safely; determine most efficient routes
• Knowledge of safe operating procedures
• Knowledge of proper handling of blood and blood products
• Ability to keep accurate records
• Ability to perform tasks effectively utilizing digital technology and communication tools (smartphones, tablets, etc.)
• Proficient computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to follow complex oral and written instructions
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
• Ability to work with minimal supervision
• Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work

Physical Requirements

Functions involve the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work and may require occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of heavy objects or materials (up to 100 pounds). Tasks that require moving objects of significant weight require the assistance of another person and/or use of proper techniques and moving equipment.
