Job summary

The SYGMA Network in Illinois is seeking a Transportation Supervisor to oversee daily operations, coach and guide associates, and ensure compliance with DOT, safety and food safety standards. This role involves coordinating routes, schedules, and resources to deliver reliable service.

The candidate will manage training, assist with performance reviews, and work with safety to conduct investigations and implement corrective actions. Strong leadership and communication abilities are essential.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR), DOT rules and SOPs.
  • Ability to manage transportation operations, schedules and budgets.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills to supervise associates and coordinate with warehouse and customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily work and safety of transportation associates and ensure SOPs and safety standards are followed.
  • Monitor routes, adherence to regulations, and maintain accurate electronic logs.
  • Prepare work schedules, assist training, and support the delivery department with asset utilization.
  • Coordinate repairs and maintenance with relevant departments to ensure smooth operations.
  • Review productivity reports, suggest efficiency improvements and help implement changes.
  • Enforce company policies, train on DOT and food safety protocols, and maintain compliance.
  • Communicate with warehouse and customer service teams to resolve issues and meet delivery challenges.
  • Visit customer locations to address issues and assess delivery difficulty.
  • Maintain associate morale with regular meetings and open channels for questions.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • IESSupervises the daily work and safety of transportation associates, including adherence to standard operating procedures, Food Safety Standards and preferred work methods, adherence to planned routes, and providing safe and efficient customer servi ce.Ensures transportation associates’ comply with local, state and federal regulatory agencies (i.e. DOT, OSHA, etc.) and ensures that electronic logs are kept current and accura te.Oversees labor hours and consumable supplies within budg et.Prepares work schedules including extra work days and shifts as need ed.Assists with the training of new associates, including cross-training of existing associat es.Direct the proper selection and utilization of company assets in support of the delivery departme nt.Coordinates required repairs with proper departments as necessa ry.Reviews delivery functions and productivity reporting; suggests efficiency ideas, cost reduction measures and assists with implementation of delivery chang es.Interprets, trains and consistently enforces company policies, protocols and procedures including but not limited to food safety, DOT, record keeping, e tc.Communicates with warehouse and customer service teams to collaboratively resolve any customer or delivery opportunities or issu es.Visits customer locations and meets with customers to address issues and assess delivery difficul ty.Maintains positive associate relations through regular department or pre-shift meetin gs;Keeps open communication channels with associates by answering questions and explaining policies and procedur es.Monitors associate morale, along with submitting and responding to ideas to improve associate engagement and enableme nt.Works with safety manager to aid in training, conducting associate observations, up-dating preferred work methods, conducting accident investigations to determine root causes and routine safety inspectio ns.Makes recommendations for corrective action and/or behavior modification where requir ed.Performs management functions of staff selection, development, discipline, performance reviews and/or terminatio ns.Works assigned schedule, exhibits regular and predictable attendance and works outside of the normal schedule as required to meet workload deman ds.Performs the duties of associates supervised and other related duties as needed (and as qualifie d).
Qualifications
  • EducationHigh school diploma, general education degree (GED), or equivalent degree; or equivalent combination of education and related experie nce.2 or 4-year college degree in business management, supply chain management or similar major prefer
  • Experience2-4 years of transportation experience and/or trai ning.Commercial Vehicle Drivers must have the ability to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to understand highway traffic signs and signals in the English language, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and rec
Licenses & Certificates
  • Class A Commercial Driver’s License is req uired
