Job summary

CUSD 303 is seeking a qualified candidate to serve as the Transportation Shop Manager. This is a full-time, 12-month position. May be on call after hours and other duties as assigned.

Experience as a shop manager is preferred, with a high school diploma or equivalent and vocational training in diesel or automotive technology. The role requires extensive vehicle maintenance experience and prior supervisory responsibility.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of a vocational or technical training program in diesel mechanics, automotive technology, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in diesel, gasoline, medium-duty, or heavy-duty vehicle maintenance and repair, preferably involving school buses or commercial fleet vehicles.
• Previous supervisory or lead mechanic experience preferred for management positions.
• Successful completion of a criminal background check or any additional screenings required by law or District policy.
• Ability or maintain an appropriate set of personal tools necessary to perform assigned duties.
• Demonstrated record of regular, reliable attendance.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and conduct all work with professionalism, integrity, and respect.

• Oversee daily operations of the transportation shop and maintenance programs.
• Lead, supervise and develop shop staff to ensure timely vehicle maintenance and safety compliance.

Licenses and Certifications:

• Valid Illinois Driver's License required
• Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Illinois Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class B or higher.
• Ability to obtain and maintain an Illinois School Bus Driver Permit
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Transportation (DOT) Medical Examiner's Certificate
• ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) Medium/Heavy Truck certifications preferred
• Air Brake Certification or equivalent experience preferred
• Illinois School Bus Annual Inspector Certification or ability to obtain within a timeframe established by the District
