Job summary

Stanley Consultants in DeBary, Florida seeks a Transportation Project Manager to lead highway design projects, manage scope, schedule, cost, and quality, and mentor staff. You will coordinate with FDOT and municipal clients, prepare plans, estimates, and schedules, and help grow the Florida program.

The ideal candidate has a BS in Civil Engineering, 10+ years of relevant experience, a Florida PE or ability to obtain it, and strong leadership, communication, and business development skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an accredited college.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Florida Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Experience with FDOT highway design, plan prep, standards, and specs.
  • Experience in developing technical approaches for RFQs and proposals.
  • Strong business acumen including negotiations.
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently and in a team.
  • Proven leadership, communication, collaboration, and client liaison skills.
  • Proficient with ProjectWise, Bluebeam, MS Teams, MicroStation, ORD.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, direct, and mentor design staff on transportation projects with a broad range of design tasks.
  • Manage projects with FDOT and municipal clients, ensuring scope, schedule, cost and quality.
  • Assist in staffing, hiring recommendations, and marketing strategies for opportunities.

If this describes you, we are looking for a talented and ambitious Transportation Project Manager in our DeBary, Florida office. You will provide engineering expertise on highway projects including roadway studies and design, drainage systems, preliminary and final design, preparation of construction documents, cost estimates, project scheduling, and large, complex highway corridors.

This position offers exciting challenges and opportunities to develop the growing Florida program while managing all activities related to project scope, schedule, cost, quality, communications, and resources; mentoring young staff engineers, assisting in transportation market business development, and participating in professional organizations and technical committees.

Responsibilities
  • Lead, direct, and mentor design staff on transportation projects, including plan development for a comprehensive range of transportation design projects ranging from trails to intersection improvements, roundabouts, and RRR milling and resurfacing to interchanges and interstate widenings. Associated tasks with these projects will include elements such as horizontal and vertical geometry, plans preparation, maintenance of traffic, 3D roadway modeling, quantities calculations, and construction specifications.
  • Managing and designing projects with clients such as Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and other municipal organizations.
  • Assist in staffing requirements and make recommendations for hiring staff.
  • Assist in the development of marketing strategies for transportation project opportunities.
  • Adhere to company standards for quality assurance and quality control as defined in the quality manual.
  • Participate in project scoping, fee estimating and proposal preparation, interviews, and staff hour and fee negotiations.
  • Review department project(s) after award to collaborate on developing schedules, budgets, staffing, sub consultant involvement, and progress billings.
  • Attend on-site and off-site client meetings.
  • Evaluate client needs and identify requirements.
  • Meet with client management as necessary during the term of a project to resolve issues and to obtain approvals at the project’s completion.
  • Prepare and modify reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, cost estimates, environmental studies, and designs for projects.
  • Evaluate need for design changes and makes appropriate recommendations.
  • Submit documents to federal, state, and local agencies for compliance review and obtain permits when required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Florida Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Experience with FDOT developing, delivering, and managing highway design projects including design methods, plan preparation, standards, and specifications.
  • Experience in preparing technical approaches to support RFQ’s and technical proposals preferred.
  • Business acumen including negotiation skills.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work both independently and as part of a project team to complete tasks.
  • Proven leadership, communication, collaboration, mentoring and client liaison skills.
  • Proficient in virtual collaboration tools such as ProjectWise, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Teams.
  • Experienced in and fully capable of using the Microsoft software suite including Word, Excel, and Power Point.
Additional Qualifications
  • Established relationships with Florida Department of Transportation or other municipal agencies.
  • Working knowledge of roadway design software used to prepare engineering and design documents in MicroStation and Open Roads Designer (ORD).
  • Experience in the development of alternative delivery projects.
