Job summary

HNTB Corporation in Houston is seeking a lead engineer to oversee the production and modification of design calculations, technical reports, engineering plans and specifications. You will mentor junior staff and coordinate with clients and partners to ensure on-time project delivery.

Qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Engineering with 6+ years of experience (or equivalent advanced degree) and PE certification preferred.

  • PE certification is preferred; AICP certification may be preferred depending on discipline.
  • Experience with TxDOT, Harris County Engineering, HCTRA, City of Houston is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Planning and distribution of discipline-specific work, ensuring schedule and budget compliance.
  • Assist in marketing responsibilities, including proposal generation.
  • Develop scope of work and level of effort for projects and assignments.
  • Ensure completeness and accuracy of the project team's work within the discipline.
  • Guide and mentor team toward project objectives.
  • Coordinate technical aspects with client counterparts and partners at staff level.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
  • Recruit, hire, develop and retain staff; plan for staff reporting, performance and compensation reviews, and succession.
  • Coordinate schedules and approve timecards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Consults with the project manager to perform research, development, calculations, design and delivery. Applies engineering techniques, procedures and design criteria for projects ranging in size and complexity. Leverages technical knowledge and experience to address design related issues or concerns, working closely with the project manager through creative problem solving, interactions with clients and by completing tasks to meet the project schedule. Develops conceptual and detailed designs and calculations to support the project completion using current drawing and technical tools, programs and software. As a member of the team, you will contribute to the successful project delivery for a diverse range of projects for HNTB's clients. This position is a lead role to direct, mentor and train junior staff.

What You'll Need
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 6 years of relevant experience, or Master's degree in Engineering and 5 years of relevant experience, or PhD in Engineering and 4 years of relevant experience
What You'll Bring
  • Understands the impacts of decisions on technical design and work planning.
  • Coordinates work planning and design effectively across multiple technical disciplines.
  • Prepares high quality deliverables that are on time, and within budget and scope.
What We Prefer
  • Master's degree in Engineering 8 years relevant experience
  • Demonstrated experience using OpenRoads Designer for roadway design and 3D Modeling
  • Progressive Project History with TxDOT, Harris County Engineering, HCTRA, City of Houston
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification
  • American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification (depending on discipline)
