Job summary

Thompson Engineering is seeking a Transportation Engineer with 5–10 years of experience to join our transportation design team in our Tuscaloosa, AL office. The ideal candidate will lead projects from concept through construction and collaborate with survey, environmental, and structural staff to deliver quality roadway designs.

Proficiency with OpenRoads Designer or Civil 3D is preferred, and a PE license is desirable but not required for consideration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
• 5–10 years of professional experience in transportation or roadway design.
• Proficiency with OpenRoads Designer or Civil 3D preferred.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred (not required).

Responsibilities

• Prepare roadway and transportation designs, plans, and specifications using OpenRoads Designer or AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Support and lead design efforts for municipal, state DOT, and private transportation projects.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including survey, environmental, and structural staff.
• Develop project deliverables including cost estimates, quantities, and design reports.
• Serve as a task leader or project engineer on complex assignments.
• Assist with client coordination, project management, and mentoring of junior engineers or designers.
