Job summary

Benesch is seeking a Transportation Project Engineer to join our team in Omaha, Nebraska. The candidate will be integral to our transportation service line, focusing on planning and engineering design for public infrastructure. Responsibilities include developing designs, collaborating with stakeholders, and ensuring high-quality project delivery.

Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer license or ability to obtain upon hire (preferred).
  • Ability to work and collaborate in a team environment on challenging projects.
  • Experience working with local and state public agency clients (Public Works, DOTs, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed designs of urban and rural roadways from preliminary to final design.
  • Collaborate with team members, communities, and stakeholders to define data needs.
  • Compile and coordinate plans, specifications, cost estimates, and pay items.

Benesch is a growing, multi‑disciplined planning and engineering services firm enhancing infrastructure and communities across the country.

Transportation Project Engineer

This role is part of our established transportation service line focused on planning, engineering design, and construction of transportation infrastructure for public agencies. The successful candidate will prepare and review plans, technical specifications, contract documents, and estimates related to a variety of transportation projects and will mentor and supervise technical support personnel assigned to the project.

Location

Flexible hybrid work schedule with the option to work from offices in Omaha, Bellevue, Lincoln, or Grand Island, NE.

Key Projects Across Nebraska

Lincoln South Beltway: Lead consultant for the $352M project, providing environmental assessment, design, geotechnical services, and construction support for 43 miles of roadway, 23 bridges, and multiple interchanges.

US‑81: Ongoing four‑lane expressway expansion between York and Columbus; Benesch is the lead consultant responsible for roadway and bridge design.

US‑26: Ongoing four‑lane expressway expansion between Minatare and US‑385; Benesch is the lead consultant responsible for roadway, drainage, and bridge design.

The Impact You Will Have
  • Develop detailed designs of urban and rural roadways from preliminary to final design
  • Collaborate with team members, communities, and stakeholders to define data needs, project requirements, and outputs
  • Compile and coordinate plans, specifications, cost estimates, and pay items
  • Support studies and alternative analysis to determine best solutions to meet compliance and client goals
  • Work with various disciplines and reviewers to ensure complete, accurate, and high‑quality deliverables
  • Contribute to proposal development
  • Manage small projects and project tasks and assist Project Managers in overall large project delivery
  • Manage and maintain project documentation
What You Will Need
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or higher (required)
  • Professional Engineer license or ability to obtain upon hire (preferred)
  • Project experience in transportation engineering design (preferred)
  • Ability to work and collaborate in a team environment on challenging projects
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to develop task deliverables in a complete and timely manner
  • Experience working with local and state public agency clients (Public Works, DOTs, etc.)
  • Proficiency with Microstation Open Roads Designer and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
