Amentum is seeking a Transportation Motor Vehicle Mechanic for a government contract based in Jacksonville, Florida at Mayport. You will diagnose, repair and overhaul automotive systems, perform preventive maintenance, and document service records in a safety-conscious shop.

The role requires ASE and forklift certifications, NAVFAC criteria, and ownership of your own tools. Citizenship may be required for credentials; position is based on site in Mayport.

Amentum is currently seeking a Transportation Motor Vehicle Mechanic to support a government contract based in Jacksonville, Florida at Mayport.

Position Summary

Performs duties described in the Service Contract Act Service Order Transportation Motor Vehicle Mechanic. May perform duties of other classifications that have a pay rate equal to or lower than the employee’s current rate.

Duties / Essential Functions

The Motor Vehicle Mechanic repairs, rebuilds, or overhauls major assemblies of internal combustion automobiles, buses, trucks or tractors. Work involves most of the following:

• Diagnosing the source of trouble and determining the extent of repairs required;
• Replacing worn or broken parts such as piston rings, bearings, or other engine parts;
• Grinding and adjusting valves;
• Rebuilding carburetors;
• Overhauling transmissions;
• Repairing fuel injection, lighting, and ignition systems;
• Keeping equipment available for use by inspecting and testing vehicles; completing preventive maintenance such as engine tune‑ups, oil changes, tire rotation and changes, wheel balancing, replacing filters;
• Maintaining vehicle functional condition by listening to operator complaints; conducting inspections; repairing engine failures; repairing mechanical and electrical systems malfunctions; replacing parts and components; repairing body damage;
• Verifying vehicle serviceability by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems;
• Complying with state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards;
• Maintaining vehicle appearance by cleaning, washing, and painting;
• Maintaining vehicle records by recording service and repairs;
• Keeping shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs;
• Keeping supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt;
• Updating job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications;
• Accomplishing maintenance and organization mission by completing related results as needed;
• Performing marginal functions such as GSA calls for approval of repairs; submitting purchase requisitions to Material Expeditor;
• Safely operating shop equipment;
• Performing other duties as requested.

Qualifications / Education / Experience

• Certificate/License/Registration: ASE Certification;
• Forklift Operator Certification;
• NAVFAC P300 Lifting, Energy Level, Dependability, Persistence, Time Management, Attendance, Independence, Safety Management, Problem Solving, Dealing with Complexity, Analyzing Information;
• Must supply own tools to perform work;
• Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization;
• Note: US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.

Physical Requirements

• Lifting: Up to 50 lbs, 25%
• Climbing: occasionally required to perform repairs and inspections
• Crawling: occasionally required to perform repairs and inspections
• Special clothing/equipment (wearing): Slip resistant hardened toe shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection in designated areas, 100% Unusual physical requirements: Sitting (50%), Standing (75%), Bending (25%), stooping (25%) High noise level: 25% Personal Protective Equipment will be required.
