Job description

Transportation Manager

Responsible for day-to-day transportation operations, including driver management, load planning, and customer service functions to ensure customer satisfaction. Operational functions include revenue generation, safety, recruiting, equipment maintenance monitoring, and driver payroll, while meeting key performance indicators set by the Dedicated Logistics Manager, Operations Manager, and customers.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain driver relationships by understanding and meeting driver needs such as home time, payroll, utility, equipment breakdowns, logging violations, safety and equipment issues.
• Assign drivers to loads by optimizing load information—origin, destination, freight type, miles, stops, directions—balanced with driver needs and availability.
• Use AS400 computer system, Qualcomm satellite, face‑to‑face communication, and phone to coordinate assignments.
• Understand and adhere to customer dynamics, service expectations, goals, and initiatives, focusing on improving value for the customer and the company.
• Interface with departments such as billing, vans, customer service, risk, safety, payroll, fuel, maintenance, and external vendors.
• Collaborate with the Dedicated Manager or Operations Manager to fill and maintain a full board of drivers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Transportation, or Logistics, and/or 2–3 years of fleet management or transportation experience in the truckload industry.
• Six months to one year of supervisory experience preferred.
• Strong organizational skills, proven management ability, and proficiency with computer terminal and satellite communications systems.
