Job summary

LifeWork Search is partnering with a growing third‑party logistics and fulfillment organization in the Dallas area to fill a hands‑on Transportation Manager role. You will own day‑to‑day freight activity, support customers, and help build scalable transportation processes as shipment volume continues to grow.

You will schedule and track inbound/outbound LTL, PTL, and FTL, manage small parcel shipments, collaborate with carriers, and leverage TMS/WMS to optimize cost, service, and performance

Qualifications

• 3–5+ years freight or transportation management experience, with LTL and FTL knowledge.
• Hands-on experience scheduling, tracking, and managing shipments using a TMS.
• Strong understanding of freight terminology, charges, and carrier requirements.
• Excellent customer-facing communication to proactively manage issues and exceptions.
• Experience in a 3PL, logistics, distribution, or fulfillment environment preferred.
• Familiarity with small parcel shipping, carrier rates, and billing discrepancies.

Responsibilities

• Schedule, coordinate, and track inbound and outbound LTL, PTL, and FTL shipments from pickup to delivery.
• Manage small parcel shipping and work with carriers on rates, issues, and exceptions.
• Use TMS to schedule shipments, monitor freight activity, maintain records, and provide visibility.
• Coordinate with freight brokers and carriers to select transportation solutions based on cost and service.
• Serve as transportation contact for customers, communicating scheduling and status updates.
• Research freight costs, support quotes, and review charges and claims.
• Analyze transportation activity to identify cost savings and efficiency opportunities.
• Collaborate with warehouse and operations to align transportation with requirements.

We are currently working with a growing (300% growth in 3 years) third-party logistics and fulfillment organization that is expanding its transportation capabilities. They are looking for a hands‑on Transportation Manager to own day‑to‑day freight activity, support customers, and help build scalable transportation processes as shipment volume continues to grow.

Position Description:

• Schedule, coordinate, and track inbound and outbound LTL, PTL, and FTL shipments from pickup through final delivery.
• Manage small parcel shipping and work with parcel carriers on rates, claims, service issues, and shipment exceptions.
• Utilize Transportation Management Systems (TMS) to schedule shipments, monitor freight activity, maintain records, and provide shipment visibility.
• Coordinate with freight brokers and carriers throughout the shipment lifecycle and select transportation solutions based on cost, service, transit time, and performance.
• Serve as a key transportation contact for customers, providing proactive communication regarding scheduling, shipment status, delays, and exceptions.
• Research freight costs, support shipping quotes, and review freight charges, accessorial fees, claims, and billing discrepancies.
• Analyze transportation activity to identify opportunities to improve service, reduce cost, and increase operational efficiency.
• Partner closely with warehouse and operations teams to ensure transportation activities support customer and facility requirements.

Background Required:

• Ideally 3‑5+ years of freight or transportation management experience with strong knowledge of LTL and FTL operations.
• Hands‑on experience scheduling, tracking, and managing shipments from origin through delivery using a TMS.
• Strong understanding of freight terminology, classifications, accessorial charges, shipment requirements, and common transportation equipment.
• Strong customer‑facing communication skills with the ability to proactively manage shipment issues and exceptions.
• Experience in a 3PL, logistics, distribution, warehousing, or fulfillment environment preferred.
• Small parcel experience and familiarity with carrier rates, freight negotiations, audits, claims, and charge disputes are highly desirable.
• Comfortable working across TMS and WMS platforms and using shipment, PO, SO, and tracking data.
• Demonstrated problem solver who is detail‑oriented, responsive, collaborative, and able to help scale a growing transportation operation.
