Caltrans is seeking a Transportation Engineering Technician in Alameda County. The role involves assisting engineers with contract plans, specs, estimates and 3-D modeling, plus field data collection using survey gear and UAS. Telework may be available at Caltrans’ discretion.

The incumbent will work under supervision, performing non-professional engineering tasks and supporting project delivery across multiple districts. A valid CA driver’s license is required.

Job Description And Duties

PARF# 04-27-0382, JC-535055 As a Transportation Engineering Technician, the incumbent performs non-professional engineering activities under the supervision of the Senior Transportation Engineer. In this capacity, the incumbent assists Transportation Engineers in the preparation and revision of contract plans, specifications, estimates, and 3-D/4-D/5-D models by using analytical and computer-oriented processes and equipment. The incumbent will also perform field data collection using survey equipment and/or Unmanned Aerial Systems. Personal Leave Program: Effective July 1, 2025, state employees are subject to temporary salary reductions ranging from 2% to 4.62% in exchange for Personal Leave Program (PLP) hours. Please note that the salary ranges listed in this Job Control may not reflect these reductions associated with the 2025 Personal Leave Program. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans’s evolving telework policy. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee’s designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate. Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Transportation Engineering Technician exam.
