Job summary

SLR Consulting is seeking a Practice Leader for Transportation Engineering in New Hampshire. You will lead and advance our transportation practice, mentor staff, and drive quality while collaborating with service line leaders to grow the practice.

You will champion engineering excellence, oversee project delivery, and guide QA/QC. The role emphasizes resource planning, business development, and maintaining compliance with standards and agency requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering.
• PE license required (CT preferred or via reciprocity).
• 20+ years of relevant experience in transportation systems design/planning.
• Proven experience leading multidisciplinary project teams.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
• Experience with State DOT, municipal, or regional transportation agencies preferred.
• Familiarity with sustainability principles and environmental permitting processes a plus.
• Preferred: multidisciplinary consulting firm experience; knowledge of funding policies; prior role as tech lead or senior PM; experience reviewing plans and reports for compliance.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and oversight for transportation engineering projects including highway, bridge, intersection, corridor, multimodal, and transit improvements.
• Serve as a senior technical resource for engineers and designers, supporting problem-solving and design decisions.
• Oversee and balance the existing high-volume workload.
• Develop, maintain, and enforce engineering standards, design criteria, and best practices.
• Lead and support QA/QC processes, technical reviews, and risk management efforts.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to technical training and professional development.
• Assist service line leadership with resource planning, hiring, and workload management.
• Support business development and guide proposal efforts through contract negotiations.
• Coordinate with environmental, planning, and landscape architecture teams for integrated outcomes.
• Stay current with design standards, codes, and agency requirements (AASHTO, state DOTs, local agencies).
• Engage with professional organizations to promote team networking.
• Drive growth in sales and revenue while maintaining profitability.
