Job summary

Stantec's NYC office is offering a Transportation Engineering Intern/Co-op, a paid internship with full-time or part-time hours during Spring 2027, primarily office-based. You will assist with transportation impact studies, data collection, and analyses using Excel, Python, MySQL, HCS, Synchro, VISSIM, Cube, and TransCAD, while supporting roadway design and traffic engineering teams.

Ideal candidates are enrolled in Civil/Transportation programs with strong communication, teamwork, and interest

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Transportation Planning, City and Regional Planning, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Economics, or related field.
• Enrollment in an advanced degree (master’s or Ph.D.) is considered a plus.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Interest in transportation planning and engineering with strong attention to detail.
• Team player in fast-paced environments with good communication.
• Familiarity with Python, C++, or Java; additional programming experience is preferred.
• Knowledge of transportation software including HCS, Synchro, VISSIM, Cube, TransCAD is preferred.
• Interest and experience in travel demand modeling is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist with transportation impact studies, traffic data collection and analysis, report preparation, travel demand modeling, and other technical assignments.
• Gather traffic data from publicly available sources and through field visits.
• Analyze traffic data utilizing Microsoft Excel, Python, MySQL, etc.
• Conduct traffic analyses using HCS, Synchro, and VISSIM.
• Support travel demand model calibration, validation, and scenario analysis in Cube and TransCAD.
• Provide support to our roadway design and traffic engineering teams.
• Perform additional duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
