Job summary

Alta is seeking a Transportation Engineer Project Manager to join our Atlanta design team. You will lead multimodal transportation projects, develop bid-ready PS&E packages, and coordinate with a cross-disciplinary group to deliver complete streets and bikeway designs.

The role offers mentorship from industry leaders and opportunities to grow across scales from concept to detailed plans in Georgia and beyond.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years as a Transportation Engineer in consulting or public sector.
  • 2+ years of project management experience coordinating teams, scopes, budgets, and schedules.
  • ABET/EAC-accredited Civil/Transportation Engineering degree; PE license.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation; Civil 3D/OpenRoads experience.
  • Experience with DOT and Federally funded design projects is strongly desired.
  • Strong design background in multimodal transportation, complete streets, bikeways, and pedestrian improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a variety of multimodal projects, including complete streets and bikeway design.
  • Develop high-quality PS&E design documents for bid-ready packages.
  • Conduct site visits to assess conditions and inform design decisions.
  • Lead coordination meetings with clients and consultants.

Job description

Alta is looking for a Transportation Engineer Project Manager to join our growing design team in the Atlanta office. This mid-career role is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about sustainable transportation and eager to advance their career. In this position, you will work on a wide variety of projects focused on transforming communities through multimodal transportation solutions, including complete street reconfigurations, bikeway designs, complex trails, and other innovative transportation solutions. You’ll work on both large- and small-scale projects and contribute to plans and designs that make a real impact on the safety and accessibility of communities across Georgia and around the country.

In this role, you’ll collaborate with our multidisciplinary team of planners, landscape architects, graphics designers, outreach specialists, and data analysts. You’ll be mentored by industry leaders and have the opportunity to engage with complex design challenges, working across scales from conceptual design to detailed plans and specifications. Day to Day

As a Transportation Engineer Project Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Managing a variety of multimodal transportation projects, including complete streets, bikeway design, and pedestrian improvements.
  • Developing high-quality design documents, including Plans, Specifications, and Estimates (PS&E) for bid-ready packages.
  • Participating in site visits to investigate existing conditions, observe construction activities, and inform design decisions.
  • Leading and supporting project coordination meetings with clients and consultants.
  • Collaborating with internal teams to prepare proposals, scope of work documents, and technical graphics for grant applications and other planning activities.
  • Assisting with business development and contributing to the proposal process when pursuing new projects.
Qualifications
Required
  • 8+ years of experience as a Transportation Engineer in a consulting environment or public entity
  • 2+ years of experience with project management, including coordinating teams, preparing scopes of work, budgets, and schedules.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related field from an ABET/EAC-accredited program.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation; experience with Civil 3D, OpenRoads
  • Experience with DOT and Federally funded design projects is strongly desired
  • Strong background in transportation design, including experience with multimodal transportation solutions, complete streets, bikeway design, pedestrian improvements, and related projects.
  • Ability to design, manage, and deliver project tasks such as geometric layout, grading, storm drainage, green infrastructure, traffic control plans, construction staging, and more.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proven ability to lead or coordinate project tasks, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines and budget constraints.
Preferred
  • Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with Deltek VantagePoint or similar project management software.
  • Willingness to travel as needed for site visits and client meetings.

Compensation

The pay range for this job in Atlanta is $120,000-$150,000 annually. Placement within the range is based upon experience, skill-sets, and qualifications.
