Ardurra’s Transportation team delivers design expertise across a wide spectrum of projects, from complex multilevel interchanges to urban arterial reconstruction and complete streets. Our portfolio includes major projects such as the SR 417 Widening Project in Central Florida and the SR 40 Widening Project in Marion County, both demonstrating our commitment to enhancing mobility and safety. Each design is tailored to be cost-effective and responsive to client needs across all delivery methods, including Design‑Build and Design‑Bid‑Build. We provide comprehensive planning, engineering design, and construction management to deliver safe and efficient transportation solutions.

This role is focused on state roadway design and production, supporting a mix of design‑build and design‑bid‑build projects across Central Florida. The ideal candidate is a technically strong engineer who can independently execute design tasks using client standards and tools, particularly within a MicroStation / OpenRoads Designer (ORD) environment.

Primary Function

The Transportation Engineer III performs moderately complex transportation design engineering work with a focus on state roadway projects. This role requires full competency in conventional engineering practices and the ability to independently evaluate, select, and apply standard design techniques, procedures, and criteria. You will contribute directly to the engineering and production of roadway design plans, coordinating with internal teams and ensuring compliance with state standards and project requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop roadway design plans in accordance with client standards, including alignments, profiles, cross sections, and quantities
  • Utilize MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer (ORD) for 3D modeling and plan production
  • Prepare and review engineering calculations, specifications, and supporting documentation
  • Ensure all work products meet client criteria, scope, schedule, cost, and quality requirements
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including drainage, traffic, and structures
  • Review design for constructability, sequencing, and field implementation considerations
  • Support design‑build and design‑bid‑build project delivery, adapting to project‑specific requirements
  • Assist with technical reports, proposals, and engineering analyses
  • Provide guidance to junior engineers, designers, and CADD staff
  • Participate in QA/QC reviews to ensure accuracy and compliance with standards
  • May support construction‑phase services, including responding to RFIs and reviewing submittals
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program
  • 4–6+ years of transportation/roadway design experience
  • Demonstrated experience working on FDOT projects and standards (Districts 1, 3, 4, or 5 preferred)
  • Strong proficiency in MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer (ORD)
  • Ability to independently perform roadway design and plan production
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Florida (or ability to obtain)
  • Experience supporting design‑build project delivery
  • Familiarity with Central Florida municipal and county clients (e.g., Orange County, Seminole County, St. Lucie County)
  • Experience coordinating with FDOT disciplines such as drainage, traffic, and utilities
