Job summary

Insight Global is seeking a Transportation Engineer to support roadway design and transportation improvement projects across Virginia. The role involves developing roadway models and construction plan sets using ORD, supporting project delivery, and collaborating with project managers and design teams on VDOT and municipal projects.

Responsibilities include creating design models, quantity takeoffs, and applying AASHTO and DOT standards while working with multi-disciplinary teams.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • 2-10+ years of roadway/highway design experience.
  • Experience with roadway modeling software such as OpenRoads Designer (preferred) or Civil 3D with willingness to learn ORD.
  • Understanding of roadway design standards including AASHTO, DOT standards, and MUTCD.

  • Support transportation projects from planning through final design and construction documentation.
  • Coordinate with project managers and multidisciplinary teams to meet project scope, schedule, and budget goals.
  • Prepare quantity takeoffs and construction cost estimates.
  • Apply roadway design standards, specifications, and engineering best practices.
  • Contribute to both Design-Build and Design-Bid-Build projects across Virginia.

Job description

Location: Remote (PE Licensed Candidates ONLY) | Hybrid, 3 Days Onsite (Virginia Beach, Williamsburg, or Richmond, VA)

Experience: 2-10+ Years

We are seeking a Transportation Engineer to support roadway design and transportation improvement projects throughout Virginia. This role involves developing roadway models and construction plan sets, supporting project delivery, and collaborating with project managers and design teams on a variety of VDOT and municipal transportation projects.

Projects include roadway and intersection improvements, corridor and streetscape enhancements, pedestrian and trail facilities, RCUTs, ITS structure replacements, and other transportation infrastructure initiatives.

Depending on experience, candidates may also have opportunities to lead projects, interact with clients, and mentor junior engineers.

Required Qualifications
  • B.S. in Civil Engineering or related field.

  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects.
Preferred Qualifications
  • EIT or PE license.
  • Experience with drainage design, grading, traffic engineering, or stormwater BMPs.
  • Strong communication skills and interest in client interaction.
  • Experience mentoring junior staff or leading project tasks.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Work Arrangement
  • Licensed PE candidates: Eligible for 100% remote work.
  • Non-PE candidates: Required to work a hybrid schedule (3 days onsite) from one of the following office locations:
  • Williamsburg, VA
