Job summary

BETA Group, Inc. is expanding its Rhode Island transportation team and seeks a Transportation Engineer to help deliver highway, drainage, and multimodal projects across New England. The role blends design execution with field work and client coordination.

You will collaborate with senior engineers, participate in field investigations, and progress toward leadership roles while enjoying employee ownership, mentorship, and a flexible hybrid schedule with remote options.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, or related field.
• 4 to 8+ years of related engineering experience in highway design, stormwater management, ADA compliance, and roadway construction practices.
• EIT (Fundamentals of Engineering)
• Proficient with AutoCAD, Civil3D, and ArcGIS/Pro
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
• Experience with AASHTO, RIDOT/MassDOT/ConnDOT design standards, MUTCD
• Experience with RIDEM and CRMC permitting regulations
• Strong technical aptitude and an eagerness to learn
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
• Must be able to collect field data and measurements including but not limited to roadway, sidewalk, and utility assets; and perform asset inspections
• Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation

Responsibilities

• Assist with the planning, design, and delivery of transportation and roadway projects from concept through construction
• Prepare roadway and highway designs, including geometric design, grading, drainage, traffic control, ADA improvements, and pavement design
• Develop engineering plans, specifications, calculations, technical reports, and other project deliverables
• Apply RIDOT, AASHTO, FHWA, MUTCD and other design standards
• Coordinate with engineers, designers, surveyors, environmental professionals, and other disciplines
• Support permitting, agency coordination, and regulatory requirements
• Participate in field investigations, site assessments, inspections, and data collection
• Provide technical support during bidding and construction and assist with resolving field and design issues
• QA/QC reviews to ensure accurate, complete, and high-quality deliverables
• Attend project meetings and coordinate among clients, municipalities, agencies, contractors, and teams
• Work with Project Managers and senior engineers to develop solutions and deliver projects
• Collaborate with New England offices to leverage regional expertise and resources
• Build technical and project management skills through hands-on experience

At BETA, you'll collaborate closely with experienced engineers and project managers, receive hands-on mentorship, and gain exposure to all phases of transportation projects. You'll have the opportunity to work on a diverse range of transportation projects, including highway and roadway improvements, complete streets and multimodal transportation, intersection and corridor improvements, sidewalk and ADA improvements, stormwater and drainage, pavement design and rehabilitation, municipal and DOT projects, and construction administration and support.

• Support permitting, agency coordination, and regulatory requirements
• Participate in field investigations, site assessments, inspections, and data collection
• Provide technical support during bidding and construction and assist with resolving field and design issues
• Participate in QA/QC reviews to ensure accurate, complete, and high-quality deliverables
• Attend project meetings and assist with coordination among clients, municipalities, agencies, contractors, and project teams
• Work closely with Project Managers and senior engineers to develop solutions and successfully deliver projects
• Collaborate with BETA's New England offices to leverage regional expertise and resources
• Build technical and project management skills through hands-on experience, mentorship, and increasingly complex assignments

Preferred location is BETA's Lincoln, RI office. Candidates should have flexibility to work from our other office locations. BETA also offers a hybrid work schedule, allowing employees to request working remotely up to 2 days per week.

Required Experience/Skills:

• Must be able to lift/move objects weighing up to 40 pounds
• Must be able to perform field work in both hot and cold weather (rain and/or snow)
• Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time
• Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation

Preferred Experience/Skills:

• Experience with AutoCAD Storm and Sanitary & HydroCAD
• Professional Engineer (PE) License
• OSHA Certifications (OSHA 10-Construction, OSHA 40-HAZWOPER, OSHA Confined Space Entry, etc…)
