Job summary

A local educational organization in Florence, Arizona is seeking a responsible individual to drive district vehicles for student transportation. Job description

Drives district vehicle to transport students over specified routes to local or distant points according to a time schedule by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Assesses incidents, complaints, accidents and/or potential emergency situations for the purpose of resolving or recommending a resolution.
• Assists students and other passengers (e.g., seating, restraints, special equipment) for the purpose of providing safe loading and unloading from vehicles, including emergency situations and normal transport.
• Attends meetings, trainings, etc. for the purpose of maintaining professional competence.
• Communicates with parents, students, teachers, administrators, etc. for the purpose of conveying and/or receiving information.
• Drives school vans for the purpose of transporting regular education and/or special education students over scheduled routes and to/from school and/or field trips in a safe and timely manner.
• Escorts children across the street for the purpose of ensuring the safety and welfare of students.
• Fuels assigned vehicle (e.g., oil, water, fuel) for the purpose of maintaining vehicle in a safe operating condition.
• Informs school personnel, parents, etc. of practices and incidents (e.g., rules, regulations, laws, procedures, suspicious situations) for the purpose of providing information for follow‑up action and/or proper procedures.
• Maintains assigned vehicles, both interior and exterior (e.g., cleaning floors/windows/seats) for the purpose of ensuring safety, appearance, and sanitation.
• Monitors passengers during transit for the purpose of maintaining order and ensuring the safety of passengers.
• Performs first aid as necessary for the purpose of meeting the immediate health care needs of passengers.
• Performs pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections (e.g., fluid levels, tire pressure, exterior condition) for the purpose of ensuring the safe operating condition of the vehicle and meeting state requirements.
• Prepares documentation (e.g., daily mileage and condition reports, incident/accident reports, inspections, disciplinary and positive behavior reports, mileage) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
• Recommends routes for the purpose of coordinating bus routes and maximizing the District’s transportation services.
• Complies with local traffic regulations.
• Other duties as assigned.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

• Valid Arizona driver’s license.

Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job functions require the following physical demands: the employee is frequently required to sit, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear; occasionally required to stand and walk; must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

Terms Of Employment

• Salary based on Grade C; minimum $16.00 per hour according to the approved classified salary schedule.
• 185 days, 7 hours per day.
• Benefits as assigned for the position.

Clearances

• Criminal Justice/Fingerprint Clearance.
• Drug Screening.
• Measles/Mumps/Rubella Immunity/Vaccination.
• Valid I‑9 Form.
• Must pass a pre‑employment physical ability test.

Evaluation

Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Transportation Director in accordance with Governing Board Policy.
