Job summary

Akima Global Logistics seeks a Transportation Coordinator to plan, schedule, and coordinate inbound and outbound Army equipment movements at a contractor-operated site. You will ensure compliance with DTR, Army policies, and contract requirements, while maintaining accurate documentation and government property accountability.

You will collaborate with Army units, warehouse staff, and drivers, manage shipment schedules, prepare shipping documents, and track performance metrics for on-time

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; relevant work experience accepted in lieu.
  • 3–5 years of transportation or logistics coordination experience preferred.
  • Experience with Army turn-in or SSA operations desirable.
  • Familiarity with Army systems: TC-AIMS II, GCSS-Army, DPAS, LMP.
  • Valid driver’s license with proof of vehicle insurance and ability to travel up to 25%.

  • Coordinate receipt and shipment of vehicles, equipment, and repair parts turned in by Army units.
  • Develop and manage shipment schedules to avoid bottlenecks during mass turn-in operations.
  • Liaise with unit supply personnel, warehouse staff, and drivers to ensure smooth cargo flow.
  • Prepare and process shipping/receiving documents (DA 1348-1A, DD 1149, bills of lading, load plans).
  • Enter movement data into Army logistics systems (TC-AIMS II, GCSS-Army, DPAS).
  • Maintain shipping/receiving logs for audit readiness under ISO 9001:2015 QMS.
  • Ensure compliance with DTR 4500.9-R, AR 55-355, AR 710-2, AR 735-5.
  • Verify proper HAZMAT packaging, marking, and labeling.

Job description

This role ensures that all shipments are conducted in compliance withDefense Transportation Regulation (DTR), U.S. Army transportation policies, and contract requirements, whilemaintainingaccuratedocumentation and supporting accountability of government property.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate receipt and shipment of vehicles, equipment, and repair parts turned in by Army units.
  • Develop and manage shipment schedules to avoid bottlenecks during mass turn-in operations.
  • Liaise with unit supply personnel, warehouse staff, and drivers to ensure smooth cargo flow.
  • Prepare and process shipping/receiving documents, including DA Form 1348-1A, DD Form 1149, bills of lading, TCMDs, and load plans.
  • Enter movement data into Army logistics/transportation systems (TC-AIMS II, GCSS-Army, DPAS).
  • Maintain shipping and receiving logs for audit readiness under ISO 9001:2015 QMS.
  • Ensure compliance with DTR 4500.9-R, AR 55-355, AR 710-2, and AR 735-5.
  • Verify proper HAZMAT packaging, marking, and labeling for transportation.
  • Enforce cargo securement and vehicle safety inspections in line with Army and OSHA standards.
  • Provide daily and weekly movement status reports to the Site Manager and COR (Contracting Officer’s Representative).
  • Track key performance metrics such as on-time shipments, cargo discrepancies, and transit delays.
  • Serve as the primary contact for Army units on transportation-related matters, assisting with shipment discrepancies or documentation issues.
Qualifications
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent is preferred; however, equivalent relevant work experience may be substituted.
  • Experience:
  • 3–5 years of transportation or logistics coordination (Army contractor or military environment strongly preferred).
  • Prior experience with Army turn-in or SSA operations highly desirable.
  • Army regulations: AR 55-355, AR 710-2, AR 735-5, and DTR 4500.9-R.
  • Familiarity with Army systems: TC-AIMS II, GCSS-Army, DPAS, LMP.
  • Transportation documentation standards and cargo securement practices.
  • Strong organizational and scheduling skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Ability to read, interpret, and prepare Army transportation forms.
  • Excellent communication skills with Army personnel and contractor staff.
  • Knowledge of HAZMAT handling, DOT/OSHA safety, and load securement.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with proof of vehicle insurance.
  • Must have a real ID
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC)
  • Must be able to obtain Tier1/ NACI (Public trust) background eligibility.
  • Basic proficiency in the English language (reading and writing).
  • Must receive a favorable background check and drug testing results.
  • Employees may be required to perform other duties as assigned.
  • Must be able to travel within the United States as required. This position may require up to 25% travel.
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform routine standing, walking, bending, and reaching tasks in warehouse and field environments.
  • Must also meet all physical requirements necessary to perform assigned duties, including working in extreme heat or cold, high, or low humidity, blowing sand and dust, confined spaces, heights, and other inclement weather conditions.
  • This position involves working both indoors and outdoors, periodic overtime, and exposure to heat, dust, cold, and adverse weather conditions.
