    GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

    Under the direction of the Director or designee, this employee

    supports the Transportation Department by providing the best possible service to each student;

    ensuring the needs and safety of the students are met; through safe, economical and efficient

    transportation.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • High School diploma or equivalent; some college preferred.

    • Minimum of three (3) years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    • Must have strong communication skills necessary to work successfully with administrators, transportation and other District staff, parents, and the community.

    • Ability to collaborate and work cooperatively in a team environment.

    • Comprehensive knowledge of Transportation software, database software, and other computer programs such as MS Word and Excel, emphasizing routing software.

    • Ability to adapt to a continually changing environment.

    • Ability to identify and resolve issues and concerns in a timely manner.

    • Manage difficult or emotional customer situations; respond promptly to customer needs.

    • Ability to self-direct and prioritize among competing goals and exhibit flexibility.

    • Strong thinking, planning, and organizational skills.

    • Commitment to the highest personal and professional standard.

    • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.

    • Physical ability to perform all essential functions of the position.

    • Bending, lifting, twisting and repetitive motion required.

    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

    • Valid Driver’s license.

    • Must pass criminal background checks and be free from communicable disease.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Provide polite and professional customer support.

    • Assist in the development and monitoring of the transportation program for all public and nonpublic students.

    • Assist in establishing bus stop locations and processing special transportation requests.

    • Assist in coordinating and monitoring of day-time field trips, after-school events, and summer programs.

    • Review camera footage to ensure the safe operation of school buses.

    • Serve as a liaison between building administrators and the drivers.

    • Provide dispatch support while routes and trips are performed.

    • Provide clerical support for the department.

    • Maintain the student database in the routing software and enter changes as needed to keep data current.

    • Analyze and process time clock data and payroll information in a timely manner.

    • Assist in the scheduling and preparation of the safety meetings, special needs training, in-service and other meetings with the drivers and other transportation staff.

    • Assist with the coordination of the transportation safety program.

    • Assist in maintaining vehicle and department inventory. Recommend additional and replacement equipment.

    • Attend meetings, and willingness to travel off-site for meetings, seminars and workshops.

    • Adhere to federal, state, and local guidelines, Board policies and procedures.

    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    OTHER DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:

    • Ability to travel to multiple work locations in the course of a work day and in inclement weather.

    • Potential occasional exposure to blood and/or other bodily fluids, chemicals and fumes.

    • Possible interaction with unruly students and/or adults.

    • Work is performed in a school/office environment. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

    Salary and work year as established by the Governing Board. The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance use in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.

    EVALUATION:

    Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel.
