Job Description:

Mackin Engineers & Consultants is seeking an experienced Transportation Construction Inspector – 2 (TCI-2) in our Pittsburgh, PA office. The TCI-2 will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful completion of roadway and bridge construction projects, demonstrating expertise in construction inspection and a commitment to quality assurance.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction inspection, with a keen eye for detail and a commitment to ensuring projects are completed to the highest standards.

Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct thorough and detailed roadway and bridge construction inspections, ensuring compliance with project specifications, plans, and contractual requirements.
  2. Supervise and mentor junior inspectors, providing guidance and support to ensure accurate and efficient inspection processes.
  3. Review construction documents, including plans, specifications, and contracts, to ensure thorough understanding of project requirements.
  4. Monitor contractor activities and progress, identifying any deviations or discrepancies and taking appropriate corrective actions as necessary.
  5. Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to address construction challenges and ensure project success.
  6. Perform quality control checks on materials and workmanship, ensuring adherence to industry standards and specifications.
  7. Document inspection findings, including deficiencies, non-compliance issues, and corrective actions, in detailed and accurate reports.
  8. Communicate effectively with contractors, project team members, and regulatory agencies to resolve issues and maintain project momentum.
  9. Assist in the preparation of progress reports, change orders, and other project documentation as required.
  10. Participate in meetings, site visits, and project discussions to provide technical expertise and support project coordination efforts.

Qualifications:

  1. Minimum of 3 years of experience in construction inspection field, with demonstrated expertise in roadway and bridge inspection.
  2. Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in civil engineering or related field preferred, but not required.
  3. Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and techniques, with a focus on quality assurance and compliance.
  4. Excellent understanding of construction contracts, plans, specifications, and industry standards.
  5. Proven ability to lead and mentor junior inspectors, fostering a collaborative and supportive team environment.
  6. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with diverse stakeholders.
  7. Proficiency in Deltek Ajera, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  8. Familiarity with using computers, printers, and electronics.
  9. Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
