Job summary

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT) seeks a Transportation Construction Inspector to apply standard inspection procedures during and after construction for structural quality, safety, and conformance to plans and codes. The role is based in Virginia and offers full-time employment with competitive hourly pay.

Eligible candidates will have 1–4 years of construction inspection experience, a high school diploma or equivalent, and the ability to pass motor vehicle screening.

Qualifications

• Minimum high school diploma or equivalent; substitutions may apply.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and pass JMT’s Motor Vehicle screening.
• Strong computer skills and attention to safety and regulatory details.

Responsibilities

• Review and interpret plans, layouts, specifications and construction methods for compliance and safety.
• Perform routine tests on concrete, soils and other materials.
• Measure dimensions and verify levels, alignments and elevations of structures and pavements.
• Maintain field notes and records; manage documentation.

JMT's Virginia Construction Management Team is seeking a Transportation Construction Inspector to apply standard inspection procedures to ongoing activities during and after construction for structural quality, general safety and conformance to plans, specifications and codes.

Immigration sponsorship or support (e.g. H1B, F-1 CPT/OPT/STEM OPT) is not available for this position, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification.

Compensation for this position is $30.00 - $36.00 per hour, commensurate with experience, education and certifications. The provided range is a good faith estimate based on the requirements described within the job description. If so, the actual salary range may vary from the estimate provided.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Review and interpret plans, site layouts, specifications and construction methods to ensure compliance to legal requirements and safety regulations.
• Performs routine tests on concreate, soils and other materials
• Measure dimensions and verify level, alignment, and elevation of structures, fixtures, grades and/or pavement to ensure compliance to plans and codes.
• Gathers and maintains record documents
• Makes field notes and computations

Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities

• Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Skills

• Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening

Required Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent (may be substituted for experience)
• 1-4 years of Construction Inspection Experience

Preferred Experience

• Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management
• Client Requested certifications (VDOT: Soils & Aggregate, Asphalt I & II, Pavement Marking, GRIT; DEQ: E&S and SWM Inspector; Intermediate Workzone; Nuclear Safety; ACI-Concrete Field Tech)

Working Conditions

Work is performed in the field. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
