Job summary

Luster National is seeking a Civil Engineer Intern for the Georgia Department of Transportation’s MMIP project. You will support senior staff on multibillion-dollar highway and bridge initiatives, performing plan reviews, field observations, and documentation across Georgia.

The internship provides hands-on exposure to construction management, project controls, and transportation program delivery, with opportunities to learn CAD tools such as Civil 3D and MicroStation.

Qualifications

• Open to undergraduate students (Junior or Senior) enrolled in Civil Engineering or Construction Management at a four-year university in Georgia.
• Must have completed at least two years of degree coursework.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications at an introductory level.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Willingness to travel to field sites and work outdoors on an active construction site with PPE.
• Preference for local candidates.

Responsibilities

• Assist in reviewing roadway, drainage, structural, and traffic control plans and specifications.
• Observe field conditions on project sites and document progress.
• Support construction documentation and RFIs.
• Assist with quantity takeoffs and pay item tracking.
• Support schedule and progress reporting for project meetings.
• Use CAD tools (Civil 3D, MicroStation/OpenRoads) to review drawings and prepare markups.
• Collaborate with environmental, survey, utility, and right-of-way teams.
• Attend meetings and prepare notes and action items.
• Assist with document control and project correspondence.
• Contribute to client-facing presentations and general engineering support.
• Gain proficiency in industry-standard construction management software.
