Job summary

Kaiser Permanente in Los Angeles is seeking a patient transporter under immediate supervision to move patients, equipment, and specimens throughout the medical center. You will transport patients by wheelchair or gurney, deliver routine and STAT laboratory items, and assist with critical tasks such as CPR and responding to Code Blue pages.

This on-call role requires minimal prior experience (six months) and the ability to follow directions and communicate effectively.

Qualifications

• Six months prior experience in general patient care/hospital transportation.
• Ability to follow written and oral directions; effective communication.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 1 month of hire.

Responsibilities

• Transport patients (pre-op, post-op, Hemodialysis, etc.) by wheel chair or gurney throughout the medical center.
• PICK up routine and STAT laboratory specimens, blood, equipment, supplies, and deliver to the correct locations.
• Escort with Security Officer when transporting expired patients to the morgue.
• Transport soiled patient equipment to Central Processing; move equipment from NICU to central processing as requested.
• Perform CPR and respond to Code Blue pages; perform other related duties as required.

Essential Responsibilities

• Upholds Kaiser Permanentes Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities and applicable state, federal and local laws. Transports patients (pre-operative, post-operative, Hemodialysis etc.) by wheel chair or gurney within the Medical Center. Picks up routine and STAT requests for laboratory specimens, blood, equipment, supplies, and other appropriate materials (medical or other) including data reports on regular routes or as required and delivers to appropriate location in hospital facility. With an escort by a Security Officer, transports expired patients to the morgue. Picks up soiled patient equipment and supplies from Nursing units and transports to Central Processing. Transports equipment from NICU to central processing as requested. Performs CPR and responds to Code Blue Pages as necessary. Performs other related duties as required.

Basic Qualifications

Experience

• Six (6) months previous experience in general patient care/hospital transportation.
• Per the National Agreement, current KP Coalition employees have this experience requirement waived.
• Demonstrated ability to follow written and oral directions. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED Valid Class C California Drivers License and a current California Driver Record Information Sheet. Must have a driving record free of accidents involving the applicants negligence. Also free of citations with forfeit of bail for driving while intoxicated or driving while under the influence of drugs or reckless driving.
• Nursing Aide certification.
