Job summary

CommonSpirit Health’s Saint Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center is hiring a Transport/Patient Care Assistant in Phoenix. You will transport patients between departments, assist with mobility, and provide basic care like turning, repositioning, and feeding, ensuring safety and dignity at every step.

You’ll maintain transport equipment, complete required forms, and coordinate with nursing staff to respond promptly to patient needs in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal skills and compassionate demeanor required.
  • Stamina to assist patients and navigate a busy hospital environment.
  • High School GED General Studies required.

Responsibilities

  • Transport patients to and from departments (imaging, therapies, admissions, discharge).
  • Assist with patient mobility and basic care such as turning, repositioning, and feeding.
  • Ensure safety during transport and maintain cleanliness of transport equipment; log activities as required.
  • Record all information on log sheets and respond promptly to patient care needs.
  • Communicate effectively with clinical staff and prioritize patient comfort and dignity.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Transport/Patient Care Assistant, you will provide vital support by safely and efficiently transporting patients throughout the facility, while also offering direct patient care assistance, ensuring comfort and continuity during their healthcare journey.

Every day you will transport patients to and from departments (e.g., imaging, therapies, admissions, discharge), assist with patient mobility, and provide basic patient care such as turning, repositioning, and feeding. You will be expected to ensure patient safety during transport, maintain cleanliness of transport equipment, communicate effectively with clinical staff, and respond promptly to patient care needs, all while prioritizing patient comfort and dignity.

To be successful in this role, you must possess strong interpersonal skills, a compassionate demeanor, and the physical stamina to assist patients and navigate a busy healthcare environment efficiently.

  • Provides transportation Services for patients and Visitors
  • Responds to all calls/assignments in a timely manner
  • Assists nursing staff as needed in transfer of patient form cart, wheelchair or gurney to and from bed
  • Return all transport equipment (beds, gurneys, wheelchairs) to assigned area
  • Completes appropriate form and log sheet
  • Record all information as required on log sheet
