Job summary

SpaceX in Hawthorne, CA is seeking a Transport Technician to coordinate and safely transport flight modules, lead the transport crew, and ensure compliance with DOT and CFR during all moves.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and safely transport flight modules from origin to destination
  • Lead the entire transport crew and support staff during transit and hand-off operations, including SpaceX personnel and contracted vendors
  • Review all transportation documentation prior to departure to confirm the transport strategy meets requirements for flight vehicle transport
  • Travel with the assigned flight module to multiple destinations (Hawthorne, CA to McGregor, TX; Hawthorne, CA to Cape Canaveral, FL; Hawthorne, CA to Vandenberg, CA)
  • Provide input and recommendations in compliance with DOT and CFR on logistics and manufacturing processes
  • Evaluate in-transit risks and deliver on-site solutions for routing, repairs, escorts, and drivers
  • Use the master production schedule to coordinate resources and ensure teams, transport hardware, and equipment are available when needed
  • Oversee accurate completion and documentation of daily pre- and post-trip inspections, security meetings, permit and route reviews
  • Develop, document, and maintain work instructions with logistics management to ensure consistent and efficient packaging
  • Create and maintain reports, presentations, and performance metrics to support improvement
  • Manage the development and implementation of annual and long-term objectives for logistics activities
  • Recommend improvements to logistics management that enhance safety, timing, and reliability
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams and external suppliers
  • Identify and implement continuous improvements to systems and processes

TRANSPORT TECHNICIAN
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Coordinate and safely transport flight modules from origin to destination
  • Lead the entire transport crew and support staff during transit and hand-off operations, including SpaceX personnel (logistics technicians, tiller operators, and spotters) and contracted vendors (truck drivers, pilot car operators, and private escorts)
  • Review all transportation documentation prior to departure to confirm the transport strategy meets requirements for flight vehicle transport (permits, height checklist, and pre- and post-trip inspections)
  • Travel with the assigned flight module at all times (Hawthorne, CA to McGregor, TX; Hawthorne, CA to Cape Canaveral, FL; Hawthorne, CA to Vandenberg, CA; McGregor, TX to Cape Canaveral, FL; and McGregor, TX to Vandenberg, CA)
  • Provide input and recommendations in compliance with DOT (Department of Transportation) and CFR (Code of Federal Regulations) on logistics and manufacturing processes to improve new and existing transport hardware
  • Evaluate in-transit risks and deliver on-site solutions for routing, repairs, escorts, and drivers to minimize disruptions
  • Use the master production schedule to coordinate resources and ensure teams, transport hardware, and equipment are available when needed
  • Oversee accurate completion and documentation of daily pre- and post-trip inspections, security meetings, permit and route reviews, and procedural compliance
  • Develop, document, and maintain work instructions with logistics management to ensure consistent and efficient packaging of flight vehicles, modules, and equipment
  • Create and maintain reports, presentations, and performance metrics to support organizational and operational improvement
  • Manage the development and implementation of annual and long-term objectives for logistics activities and participate in setting those objectives
  • Recommend improvements to logistics management that enhance the safety, timing, and reliability of all movements
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams and external suppliers
  • Identify and implement continuous improvements to systems and processes
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • 1+ years of experience working with load transport and inventory processes
  • 1+ years of hands‑on experience with preparing loads, rigging, and packaging
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Knowledge and experience in transport equipment (tractor and trailer) design and maintenance
  • Knowledge of DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations and CFR (Code of Federal Regulations)
  • Experience with scheduling and production work instructions to manufacture hardware
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Experience working in a challenging and fast-paced environment
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be available to work all shifts, overtime, and weekends as needed based on operational needs; flexibility required
  • Must be available to travel up to 25% of the time
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to pass Air Force background checks for Cape Canaveral and Vandenberg
  • Ability to lift 25 lb unassisted, stoop, bend, crawl, and maneuver in tight spaces
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay Range:
Level 1: $22.00 - $24.50
Level 2: $24.50 - $29.00
Level 3: $28.50 - $35.00

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case‑by‑case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job‑related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
