Job Summary

The Transport Driver provides safe, reliable, and respectful non-emergency transportation services to individuals with developmental disabilities in accordance with Crown Transportation & Logistics policies, Regional Centers vendor requirements, and applicable state and federal regulations. Drivers promote passenger dignity, safety, and independence while maintaining professional boundaries at all times.

Supervision

This position operates under the general supervision of supervisory or management staff. This position does not supervise employees.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Safely operate company vehicles to transport individuals between residences, day programs, medical appointments, and other authorized locations.

Adhere to assigned routes, schedules, and transportation authorizations in compliance with vendor standards.

Provide verbal assistance and direction only to passengers during boarding, exiting, and seating.

Secure mobility devices using approved vehicle restraint systems; drivers do not provide physical lifting, transferring, or personal care assistance.

Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections in accordance with company policy and California vehicle safety regulations.

Maintain vehicle cleanliness and ensure a safe, professional, and respectful environment at all times.

Accurately complete trip logs, mileage records, and required documentation to meet Regional Center and company audit requirements.

Communicate professionally with passengers, families, caregivers, service providers, and Crown Transportation & Logistics staff.

Observe, document, and promptly report safety concerns, incidents, accidents, or changes in passenger condition or behavior in accordance with company policy and mandated reporter requirements.

Maintain confidentiality of all client information in compliance with HIPAA (as applicable), Regional Center standards, and company policies.

Participate in required training, certifications, and ongoing compliance activities.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Minimum two (2) years of driving or transportation experience preferred; experience with developmental disability or NEMT services is desirable.

Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.

Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and maintain professional boundaries.

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Ability to safely operate wheelchair lifts, ramps, and securement systems after training.

Licensing and Certification Requirements

Valid California Driver License (CVC 12500).

Passenger endorsement if required based on vehicle type.

Valid VDDP Special Driver Certificate (CVC 12523.6).

Acceptable driving record, including:

• No DUI convictions within the past five (5) years.
• No reckless driving or speed contest violations within the past three (3) years.

Employment Requirements

Successful completion of DOJ/FBI criminal background check and Live Scan clearance.

Enrollment in the DMV Employer Pull Notice Program.

Current CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within required timeframe).

Mandated Reporter certification.

Completion of all new-hire and ongoing training required by Crown Transportation & Logistics and Regional Centers.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to perform the essential functions of this position successfully:

Prolonged periods of sitting while operating a vehicle.

Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching.

Ability to operate restraint systems.

Ability to push, pull, or maneuver mobility equipment such as walkers for securement purposes only (up to 50 pounds).

Ability to see, hear, and communicate effectively to ensure passenger safety and respond to emergencies.

Drivers do not perform physical lifting, transferring, or hands on personal care of passengers. Assistance is limited to verbal guidance and safety related vehicle securement.

Work Environment

Work is primarily performed in company vehicles and community settings throughout surrounding service areas.

Exposure to varying weather conditions, traffic, and road conditions.

Regular interaction with individuals with developmental disabilities, families, caregivers, and service providers.

Work schedules may include early mornings, evenings, split shifts, or variable hours based on service needs.

This position requires adherence to all safety, confidentiality, and professional conduct standards established by Crown Transportation & Logistics and Regional Centers.

Drivers must consistently demonstrate professionalism, respect, safety awareness, and ethical conduct. All duties must be performed in compliance with Crown Transportation & Logistics policies, Regional Centers vendor requirements, and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
