Job summary

UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville is seeking a dedicated Patient Transporter to move patients, medical equipment, and items safely and efficiently, supporting doctors, nurses, technicians, and therapists.

The role emphasizes body mechanics, adherence to policies, and delivering timely service to ensure smooth patient flow and positive satisfaction across inpatient and outpatient areas. Previous CNA experience preferred; a high school diploma is required; training may be provided.

Qualifications

• Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Prefer Certified Nursing Assistant or patient contact experience.
• Current enrollment in a Health Related educational program desirable.
• Exhibits ability to follow oral as well as written instructions and recognize medical emergencies.

• Transport patients in wheelchairs, beds, stretchers or wagons to patient care areas, ancillary areas, various outpatient clinics, and for discharge from the hospital.
• Ensure safe, timely and accurate transport of patients, medical equipment and patient-related items to destinations.
• Support physicians, nurses, technicians, and therapists in performing their duties efficiently.
• Adhere to policies, procedures and standards established by Shands and department management.

Motor Vehicle Operator Designation

Employees in this position: Will not operate vehicles for an assigned business purpose. NOTE: A frequent driver is defined as one who uses his/her personal or Shands automobile a) at least once daily, b) at least five individual trips per week or c) drives, on average, over 150 miles per week in the performance of his/her job. Please indicate the appropriate operator designation on the Request for Personnel (RFP) form at the time a RFP is submitted to post the position.
