Job Summary

This position is for the role of a Modeling Engineer in the Ratings & Configuration (R&C) team within the Transmission System Operations Engineering (TSOE) organization. The role entails supporting the activities necessary to ensure compliance with applicable NERC and industry standards related to configuration changes to the transmission grid. Expected activities include but are not limited to:



  • Accurately model transmission system topology including impedance and facility ratings for lines, stations, and transformers for medium, high, and extra-high voltages using AEP-internal modeling databases.

  • Fulfill various system modeling related requests from Engineering and Operations personnel and submitted via ServiceNow ticketing system.

  • Collaborate with others internal/external to the team to model planned projects, representing the future transmission system, as needed.

  • Perform activities related to NERC Compliance standards.

Assists higher-level engineers in handling well-defined portions of more complex problems and analyses. Coordinates work activities of others as required to resolve routine engineering tasks. This role requires schedule flexibility. Candidates should expect to work outside of standard business hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays. The ability to work non-traditional hours and adapt to changing schedules is essential for success in this position.


What we're looking for:

Minimum Requirements - Grade 6

This is an entry-level position for new graduates with a bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program*. Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering examination, as preparation for future licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE), is encouraged and preferred.


Individuals with a bachelor's degree in engineering technology may also satisfy this degree requirement if they obtain a certified Professional Engineer (PE) license.


Minimum Requirements - Grade 7

Has typically acquired 2 or more years of related experience in work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering technology principles;
