Job summary

Orange & Rockland is seeking a Transmission Relay Engineer to join our collaborative engineering culture in New York. You will design and apply utility-grade relay systems for transmission and substation networks, with supervision from the Principal Electrical Engineer or Manager of Transmission and Substation Engineering.

You will prepare sketches, perform relay setting calculations, use Aspen One Line for simulations, support field testing, and participate in committees.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) required.
• 3–5 years of engineering work experience in Relay Engineering.
• Must be able to run relay projects, approve drawings and fault event reviews.
• Ability to read and interpret one-line, schematic, logic diagrams, and wiring drawings.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

• Ensure implementation of safety, health and environmental programs.
• Adhere to Way We Work Principles and Company procedures including EH&S, EEO, and security.
• Develop a proactive, customer-centric culture to improve value for stakeholders.
• Prepare sketches as design guides for Drafters (relay/one-line diagrams, schematics, drawings).
• Perform relay setting calculations for electromechanical, solid-state, and microprocessor relays; familiar with vendor software.
• Use Aspen One Line for fault-current simulations and relay coordination.
• Support field personnel to develop relay testing plans and root-cause analyses.
• Prepare outage reports for relay operations and disturbances; provide test letters and corrective actions.
• Prepare preliminary engineering cost estimates for feasibility studies.
• Visit manufacturing facilities to witness tests and prepare reports.
• Participate in meetings and committees; inform leads on project progress and budgets.
• Stay abreast of industry developments in Relay and Transmission Planning; participate in Emergency Response Plan.
• Familiar with NERC, NPCC, RFC standards for protection systems.
