Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Chicago, IL, is seeking an experienced Power Systems Engineer to lead consulting engagements related to transmission interconnection studies on a hybrid schedule requiring in-office work three days per week.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering, 12+ years of power systems experience, and leadership of a team, with expertise in load flow, contingency analysis, PSCAD, and software such as PSS/E/PSLF/TARA; familiarity with ISOs is a plus.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and sufficient industry experience is considered in lieu of an advanced degree
• A minimum of 12 years relevant engineering experience with at least 5 years of experience in leading a team of power systems engineers
• Experience in load flow and contingency analysis to identify transmission thermal and voltage constraints and to identify transfer capability limits
• Experience in electromagnetic transient analysis using PSCAD
• Experience using transmission planning software for load flow modeling, contingency analysis, and stability analysis using PSS/E, PSLF, TARA

This position is based on a hybrid work schedule and will require in-office work 3 days per week.

Qualifications

Essential Skills And Experience

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and sufficient industry experience is considered in lieu of an advanced degree
• A minimum of 12 years relevant engineering experience with at least 5 years of experience in leading a team of power systems engineers
• Experience in load flow and contingency analysis to identify transmission thermal and voltage constraints and to identify transfer capability limits
• Experience in electromagnetic transient analysis using PSCAD
• Experience using transmission planning software for load flow modeling, contingency analysis, and stability analysis using PSS/E, PSLF, TARA

Valued But Not Required Skills And Experience

• Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering is preferred
• Experience in stability analysis to identify critical clearing times, identify voltage constraints and analyze power system damping
• Experience in short circuit analysis and using software programs CAPE or ASPEN
• Knowledge of power regions and ISOs/RTOs, such as: PJM, MISO, NYISO, ERCOT, SPP, CAISO, WECC, SERC, ISO-NE
• Experience in Python, Java Script, or other scripting languages

Compensation Range

$145,310.00 - $222,001.00
