OGE Energy Corporation in Oklahoma City seeks a Transmission Lineman Apprentice to join our field-team. This traveling apprenticeship supports the southern territory from Oklahoma to the Texas border, performing installation, operation and maintenance of transmission and distribution systems to deliver reliable electricity.

The program blends classwork, computer-based training, and on-the-job experience, with progression toward the journey level.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or certificate in a technical discipline (e.g. High Voltage/Power Line Technology).
  • HS Diploma/GED with military experience at journey level in a craft technical field (DD 214).
  • HS Diploma/GED with 2 years utility lineman experience.

Responsibilities

  • Climb poles, set poles and string wire with equipment in a safe, efficient manner.
  • Construct and maintain transmission systems per SOPs.
  • Operate test equipment as needed.
  • Maintain a positive image and good relations with customers.
  • Attend safety meetings and trainings.
  • Maintain assigned vehicle and drive safely.

JOB INFORMATION
  • * Job Title: Transmission Lineman Apprentice
  • * Grade: Apprentice 25
  • * Job Code: 128170
  • * Location: This job will report to our Central District Office (Oklahoma City) but may office out of one of our southern offices if necessary.
JOB SUMMARY

** This is a traveling job that will support our southern territory (Oklahoma / South of I-40 to to the Texas state border) **
Performs a variety of duties related to the installation, operation, repair, and maintenance of transmission and associated distribution systems, to provide continuous and dependable electric service to customers.

LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY

* The apprentice level is a training program consisting of classes, Computer Based Curriculum and on-the-job training to obtain the qualifications to achieve the journey (fully qualified) level of the job. As training is satisfactorily completed and performance meets expectations, the apprentice moves to higher levels of responsibility and correspondingly higher pay until the journey level is achieved.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • * Climb poles, set poles and string wire, utilizes and operates equipment (e.g., aerial bucket trucks, and other construction equipment), materials, and manpower in a safe, efficient and effective manner.
  • * Constructs and maintains transmission systems in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures.
  • * May operate a variety of electronic and other test equipment with a high degree of efficiency, as needed.
  • * Projects a positive company image by maintaining a good appearance and working relationship with internal and external customers.
  • * Utilizes equipment, materials and manpower in a safe, efficient and effective manner.
  • * Attends and participates in safety meetings, schools and training sessions regarding safe and proper performance of duties.
  • * Maintains and operates assigned vehicle used in performance of duties.
  • * Constructs and maintains transmission systems in accordance with approved construction standards and approved work methods.
  • * All other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
  • * Associate's Degree or certificate of completion in a Technical discipline (i.e. High Voltage/Power Line Technology/etc.); Or
  • * High School Diploma/GED And prior military experience at the journey level in a craft technical/mechanical for at least one enlistment as documented on DD Form 214; Or
  • * High School Diploma/GED And 2 years utility lineman experience.
  • * Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with DOT certification with no DOT restrictions other than "O restriction"
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • * Required to work away from home for extended periods, as needed.
  • * Requires wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • * May be required to work under hazardous conditions.
  • * Required to operate motor vehicle safely in all traffic, weather and light conditions.
  • * Successfully complete Lineman and Switching Schools under the Apprentice Program.
  • * Maintains or obtain all required certifications (e.g., class A switching, tower climbing, hook ladders).
  • * Exposed to extreme conditions and inclement weather.
  • * Required to work non- standard work schedules to include on-call, overtime, weekends, holidays, and call-outs.
  • * Required to work with voltages up to 500 kV.
  • * Required to work at heights up to and exceeding three hundred fifty (350)feet.
  • * Possible exposure to hazardous noise due to use of heavy equipment.

  • * The operation of equipment, machinery or power tools;
  • * The operation, maintenance or oversight of critical services and infrastructure including but not limited to, electric utilities, power generation or distribution;
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAS)
  • * Ability to operate motor vehicle safely in all traffic, weather and light conditions.
  • * Ability to work in extreme conditions and inclement weather.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
  • * Required Certifications/Licensures:(Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with DOT certification with no DOT restrictions other than O restriction)

SALARY RANGE
