The role focuses on developing cost estimates and resource plans for electrical transmission and distribution projects across the region, collaborating with project teams, vendors, and clients to ensure competitive, accurate bids. The ideal candidate will have strong Excel and estimating software proficiency, the ability to work independently, and a background in engineering or construction

Qualifications

• BS/BA in Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent preferred.
• 1-5 years of estimating and project management experience in utility substation construction preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop cost estimates and resource requirements for electrical transmission and distribution projects.
• Review plans and specs to determine project costs.
• Prepare budgetary estimates from limited information and general scopes.
• Develop detailed lump-sum estimates based on company standards.
• Provide cost judgment to support bids and negotiated contracts.
• Collaborate to maintain historical cost databases and estimating tools.
• Analyze time, equipment, materials and manpower needs for each project.
• Turn over bid documents to Operations in a timely manner.

About this Role – Transmission Line Estimator

We are looking for a talented Transmission Line Estimator who has a passion for quality construction.This position is responsible for developing cost estimates and resource requirements for electrical transmission and distribution capital and maintenance construction projects throughout the region.

What You’ll Do

• Assist project team in scoping projects for engineering, construction, and contractual requirements
• Review plans, specifications, drawings to determine the cost of the project
• Prepare budgetary project estimates based on limited information and general scopes of work, often lacking specific precedence
• Develop detailed lump sum project estimates based on company standards and site-specific facility drawings
• Provide expert judgment of costs to support competitive bid and negotiated contracts
• Assist with the development of standardized historical cost databases and application tools to aid future estimates
• Analyze time, equipment, tooling, material and manpower requirements for each project
• Perform material takeoffs and develop a written estimate of cost to perform the work according to the specifications
• Ownership of the Request for Proposals
• Interface with customers, vendors and subcontractors to determine the cost of the project
• Gather information to determine subcontractor and vendor suitability and aggressively gain the best pricing
• Exercise significant independent discretion in developing project estimates and applying “mark‑up" and “labor factors"
• Visit customer field locations as required to ascertain project conditions
• Attend pre and post bid meetings as required and be able to effectively present information to clients to sell our projects
• Select pool of potential subcontractors and equipment vendors to solicit their proposals
• Analyze special safety and code requirements on all projects
• Work as part of an integrated Operations and Estimating team in acquiring projects
• Properly turns over bid documents to Operations in a timely manner
