Job summary

American Electric Power seeks an Apprentice Line Worker in Michigan to assist in installation, maintenance, and inspection of electrical transmission and distribution facilities. You’ll learn to operate line equipment, climb poles, and work on de-energized systems under close supervision.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license, and willingness to obtain a CDL beginner permit within 60 days. No prior experience is required; line-work education is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Line work experience or line school education preferred.
• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
• CDL beginner permit within 60 days must be obtained.
• HireVue Line Worker assessment and physical abilities test required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with installation, maintenance, removal and inspection of overhead and underground facilities under supervision.
• Demonstrate ground person duties as directed.
• Assist with loading, unloading, and positioning poles, towers and structures.
• Progress to operating equipment and climbing as training progresses.
• Work on conductors and equipment energized up to 260 volts under supervision.
