Job summary

Cayuse Language Connect, LLC seeks a Remote Translator as an independent contractor to translate Education, Legal, Medical, Environmental and Social Services material for agencies.

Fluency in Arabic, Cantonese, Farsi, German, Haitian Creole, Japanese, Khmer, Kinyarwanda, Mandarin, Nepali, Oromo, Portuguese, Romanian, Somali, Thai, Ukrainian or Chinese is required, plus strong writing and listening skills, cultural sensitivity and the ability to manage multiple tasks remotely.

Qualifications

• High School or BA degree or equivalent with years of experience.
• Completed medical interpreting training and related certifications.
• Training from Foreign Service Institute and healthcare/translation bodies.
• Certifications: CPT, ATA, NAJIT or equivalent.
• Fluency in multiple listed languages and ability to pass background checks.
• Strong written and verbal communication with discretion and impartiality.

Responsibilities

• Accurately translate spoken work situations, lectures, conversations and meetings.
• Transcribe spoken English using technology in some settings.
• Read original documents and translate into target language.
• Edit translated versions for accuracy and tone.
• Maintain cultural sensitivity during interpretation and translation.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

The Work

Translators will translate to agencies for individuals with a language barrier. Translation will consist of but not limited to Education, legal, Medical, Environmental, and Social Services, etc.

Languages we are looking for: Arabic, Cantonese, Farsi, German, Haitian Creole, Japanese, Khmer, Kinyarwanda, Mandarin, Nepali, Oromo, Portuguese, Romanian, Somali, Thai, Ukrainian, and Simplified/Traditional Chinese.

This position performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Core Values of Cayuse.

Responsibilities

• Accurately translate spoken work situations like lectures, conversations, and meetings.
• Utilizing technology to transcribe spoken English in some settings.
• Reading an original document and translating it into the language required.
• Editing translated versions
• Will need to be sensitive to the culture of the original languages and the target languages during the translation process
• Other duties as assigned.

• Must be fluent in one or more of the following languages: Arabic, Cantonese, Farsi, German, Haitian Creole, Japanese, Khmer, Kinyarwanda, Mandarin, Nepali, Oromo, Portuguese, Romanian, Somali, Thai, Ukrainian, and Simplified/Traditional Chinese.
• Must be able to pass a background check. May require additional background checks as required by projects and/or clients at any time during employment.
• The ability to facilitate communication with discretion and impartiality.
• Proficiency in oral and written communication
• A wide breadth of knowledge in a variety of topics
• Strong social awareness for interpretation with empathy and attentiveness
• The ability to track and remember information and concepts while simultaneously interpreting them.
• Physical stamina and dexterity for extended interpretation sessions
• Must possess problem-solving skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft and Adobe toolsets, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Acrobat, etc.
• Highly motivated with the ability to handle and manage multiple tasks at any one time.
• Ability to forge new relationships, individual and teaming in nature.
• Must be a Self-starter, that can work independently and as part of a team.

Reports to: Deputy Program Manager

Working Conditions

• Professional remote environment.
• Must be able to be on-call. Translator/Interpreter will be notified within 48 hours of potential jobs.
• Must be physically and mentally able to perform duties extended periods of time.
• Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed to meet the demands of this position.
• Must be able to establish a productive and professional workspace.
• Must be able to sit for long periods of time looking at computer screen.
• May be asked to work a flexible schedule which may include holidays.
• May be asked to travel for business or professional development purposes.
• May be asked to work hours outside of normal business hours.
