Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and endorsements in teaching assignments; SD teaching certificate required.
  • Successful student teaching and experience teaching students with significant disabilities and behavioral challenges.
  • Strong oral and written communication, human relations, leadership, conflict management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of teaching techniques for students with disabilities and significant behavioral needs.
  • Computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Knowledge and training in IEP process, special education law, assessment, and data interpretation.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and prepare instructional tasks and behavior programming aligned with IEP goals and future adult programming.
  • Prepare classroom and community activities for practicing generalization of adaptive and behavioral skills.
  • Plan and implement functional curriculum and transition skill programming for classroom and community settings.
  • Provide related instruction to support generalization of skills.
  • Establish and maintain classroom rules and procedures, supporting behavior services and transitions.
  • Lead and participate in IEP meetings and manage IEP documentation and records.
  • Communicate with parents and collaborate with community service providers.
