Job summary

Citrus County Government is seeking a Transit Supervisor I to oversee administrative Transit Services staff and PM shift drivers and dispatchers in Lecanto, FL. The role supports the Transit Services Director and Driver Trainer to ensure safe, efficient daily operations.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, with preferred associate degree and several years of supervisory/administrative experience.

Job description

General Description

The Transit Supervisor I provides supervision and work direction to administrative Transit Services staff, supervision of PM shift drivers and dispatchers. Works closely with the Transit Services Director, Transit Supervisor II, and Driver Trainer with the daily operations of the division. This is a safety-sensitive position and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing as a condition of employment.
The typical schedule for this full-time position is Monday through Friday, 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM. This position is located in Lecanto, Florida.
Essential Functions

  • Supervises, plans, and coordinates work of assigned staff. Reviews and evaluates employee performance and completes performance evaluations. Counsels staff and initiates commendations or disciplinary action when appropriate.
  • Drives and/or operates a county vehicle or equipment and must obey all safety policies, and roadway rules and laws.
  • Cohesively works with Transit Services Director to plan, implement, direct, evaluate and ensure accountability for all Transit Services staff.
  • Coordinates and oversees the daily operations of the division’s bus fleet / drivers and related dispatch staff (PM shift).
  • Supervises, plans, and coordinates work of assigned staff daily and adjusts routes/schedules as needed based on driver bid process
  • Investigates and analyzes accidents with Driver Trainer to determine cause, reports findings and makes recommendations for corrective action. Responsible for First Report of Injuries reporting for Risk Management.
  • Monitors transit software system and troubleshoots problems.
  • Maintains vehicle list and associated vehicle data for compliance and reporting.
  • Reviews and resolves timely customer issues, complaints, and compliments for further handling.
  • Assists Transit Services Director daily with the operations of the division and acts as backup, as needed
  • Attends conferences and Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) meetings, as needed.
  • Attends speaking engagements and special events as needed.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Minimum Requirements

Education, Training, and Experience

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Associate Degree or higher in Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field preferred
  • Three (3) years’ experience performing administrative and office support functions, including office operations, compliance monitoring, report preparations, and customer service resolution.
  • Two (2) years’ experience serving as a team lead and assisting in coordinating workflow, providing guidance to staff, and monitoring productivity.
Certificates, Licenses, and Background Screening

  • Valid Florida Driver License or must obtain within 30 days of establishing residency in Florida.
  • Must have or be able to obtain within six (6) months of employment, Florida Commercial Driver License (CDL) "B" or ‘C’ with Passenger Endorsement.
  • Successful completion of Level II Background screening is required. This screening is through The Florida Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse: https://info.flclearinghouse.com/
  • Must successfully pass a DOT drug screen and DOT physical.
  • Must have or be able to obtain within 90 days certification in FEMA National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses:
    • IS-100.c: Introduction to the Incident Command System (ICS)
    • IS-200.b: IFC for Single Resources & Initial Action Incidents
    • IS-700.b: An Introduction to the National Incident Management System
    • IS-800.c: National Response Framework, an Introduction
Skills And Abilities

  • Requires strong organizational skills and must be very detailed oriented.
  • Must be able to operate equipment in a safe manner and obey all safety policies.
  • Ability to effectively communicate (verbally and in writing) in a clear, confident manner using proper grammar.
  • Requires ability to maintain courteous and effective relations with County staff, elected officials, community interest groups and the public.
  • Must have strong working knowledge of computers and be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite of Products (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
Physical Requirements/Work Environment

  • Requires a combination of sitting, standing, and walking.
  • The job involves frequent lifting and carrying up to 10 pounds, and occasionally up to 20 pounds.
  • The job requires frequent bending, squatting, balancing, twisting, reaching above shoulders, and occasional climbing.
  • The job requires the completion of tasks that involve typing, simple grasping, pushing, pulling, fine manual manipulation, operating foot controls/levers, driving automotive equipment, and operating a manual transmission.
  • The job requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, color vision, hearing, and speaking.
  • The job may risk exposure to moving machinery.

Emergency Response/Recovery Activities

  • All employees will be required to work before, during, or after an emergency. During an emergency, employees may temporarily be assigned to work and perform duties outside the normal scope of their position, location, and work schedule to fit the needs of the County and its citizens. Emergency response duties may also include driving and/or operating a county vehicle or equipment and employees must obey all safety policies, and roadway rules and laws.
