Job summary

WeDriveU is seeking a Transit Driver trainee to join our Fresno operation, delivering safe paratransit services to seniors and passengers with mobility needs. You will start as a Driver Trainee and progress through our comprehensive training program while maintaining high safety standards.

Responsibilities include operating paratransit vehicles, assisting passengers, complying with state driver requirements, and providing reliable, on-time service.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Must possess or obtain valid state driver’s license and required certifications.
  • Pass substance abuse screening as a safety‑sensitive employee.
  • Complete training and attend safety meetings to remain qualified.
  • Knowledge of traffic rules and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Transport senior and/or disabled passengers using pre‑arranged appointments and schedules.
  • Provide individualized assistance with wheelchair lifts and access equipment for safe rides.
  • Ensure adequate time for boarding/disembarking and maintain on‑time service.
  • Adhere to safety policies and company requirements; prior paratransit driver experience is recommended.

Responsibilities
  • Provide safe and reliable transportation service to passengers by operating position‑specific vehicles including sedans, vans, paratransit vans, limousines, taxi‑cabs, shuttles, transit buses, school buses, and motor coaches with fixed or changing routes.
  • Report maintenance problems to Maintenance in accordance with company procedure and refrain from operating an unsafe vehicle.
  • Report to duty on time and maintain your assigned route safely.
  • Assist physically with passenger evacuation in case of emergency.
  • Report any accident or incident immediately per company policy.
  • Manage passengers and students per company policy.
  • Inform all appropriate personnel of problems and procedures.
  • Keep the interior of the assigned vehicle clean and presentable.
  • Maintain a neat and professional personal appearance at all times.
  • Ensure the vehicle is properly fueled according to facility procedures.
  • Complete all required paperwork (including route change sheets, time cards, vehicle repair requests) and submit to the appropriate authority in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a cooperative attitude with fellow employees, supervisors, customers, and passengers while promoting company goodwill.
  • Prepare the vehicle for inclement weather conditions, including scraping or cleaning windows and applying tire chains.
  • Safely and efficiently utilize vehicle equipment, such as wheelchair lifts, radios, and emergency equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Paratransit Driver Responsibilities
  • Have experience transporting senior and/or disabled citizens according to pre‑arranged appointments and schedules.
  • Provide individualized assistance and accommodation to senior and disabled passengers using wheelchair lifts, seats, and other special access equipment to ensure a safe, secure, and comfortable ride.
  • Ensure that individuals with disabilities have adequate time to complete boarding or disembarking from the vehicle.
  • Prior experience as a Paratransit Driver is recommended.
Qualifications
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain all valid applicable state license and other required certifications to operate company vehicles.
  • Must meet physical and medical requirements and pass substance abuse screening; as a safety‑sensitive employee, you will be subject to random substance abuse screening under company policy.
  • Must satisfactorily complete and pass all training and attend safety meetings and in‑service meetings to remain qualified.
  • Have extensive knowledge of traffic rules and regulations.
  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lift and assist passengers when necessary.
  • Have a high degree of attention and considerable dexterity in the control of vehicles such as sedans, vans, paratransit vans, limousines, taxi‑cabs, shuttles, transit buses, school buses, and/or motor coaches.
  • Practice defensive driving at all times and avoid vehicular and industrial accidents by practicing safe driving and work habits.
  • Comply with all applicable company, federal, state, county, district, and contract‑specific driver requirements.
