Job summary

Chicago Transit Authority is hiring a Bus Operator to operate a bus on established routes, following a set schedule to safely and courteously transport passengers between stops. You will announce stops, manage fares, and coordinate with Control Center while maintaining daily trip sheets and ensuring the bus is ready for service.

Applicants must be at least 21, have a valid Illinois Class B CDL with Knowledge, Passenger, and Air Brakes endorsements, and pass FTA drug/alcohol tests.

Qualifications

• Drug and alcohol testing required per the Federal Transportation Administration
• Must be at least 21 years old
• Illinois Class B CDL with Knowledge, Passenger and Air Brakes endorsements

Responsibilities

• Drives bus and announces stops along routes.
• Announces cross streets and transit stops.
• Inspects passes; collects fares.
• Ensures customers deposit appropriate coins and bills into fare-box.
• Issues and receives transfer cards and fare cards.
• Contacts Control Center regarding problems.
• Operates lift for disabled passengers.
• Inspects vehicle for lost articles.
• Prepares daily trip sheets and bus for service.
• Removes refuse and prepares bus for pull-out.
• Tallies boarding passengers with recording device.
• Enters tally numbers at start and end of run.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
