Job summary

Qualifications

• Valid state certificate endorsed in guidance (MS Certification Code 436).
• Three or more years teaching experience in an elementary school.

Responsibilities

• Assists with interpretation of the school’s objectives to parents, students, and the community.
• Works with teachers and staff to familiarize them with services available to meet student needs.
• Counsels students and families.
• Supervises administration of standardized tests.
• Assists in evaluating and interpreting test scores and suggests improvements.
• Focuses on preventive counseling.
• Identifies and evaluates student needs.
• Refers students to outside agencies and coordinates services.
• Assists teachers in counseling students to bring about positive behavioral changes.
• Works with teachers on conferencing techniques.
• Assists parents with nutrition, time management, supervision, hygiene, and homework.
• Visits homes to assess student needs and make parental contacts.
• Investigates and reports abuse/neglect cases.
• Notifies parents about absences or tardiness.
• Registers new and late enrollees.
• Raises awareness of careers and goal setting for students.
• Performs other related duties.
