Job summary

Recology Portland Inc. is seeking a Transfer Driver to operate manual transmission vehicles and support efficient, safe collection operations in Portland, OR. The role emphasizes safety checks, on-time routing, and respectful customer interactions across service areas.

Shift is Monday–Friday, with early start times varying by season; successful candidates will hold a valid Class A CDL and demonstrate experience with heavy vehicle operations and load management.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• One year of related driving experience, with double/triple, air brake, and/or tanker truck endorsements (two years preferred).
• Valid Class A Commercial driver’s license.
• Must have manual transmission experience.

Responsibilities

• Performs daily routine safety checks, and pre-trip inspections on assigned vehicle.
• Ensures safety measures for operation of assigned vehicle are consistently applied.
• Operates vehicle in all assigned service areas in a timely and efficient manner.
• Loads all assigned materials according to normal operating procedures and reports any violations to supervisor.
• Ensures hazardous materials are not accepted, as able.
• Assures materials being transported comply within the legal load limits.
• Reports all accidents and/or safety violations to the appropriate authority and in a timely manner.
• Maintains support of good customer relations and positively influences the community’s perception of the Company throughout all applicable service areas.
• Other duties as assigned

Under limited supervision, is accountable for the efficient and effective operation of assigned vehicle, the consistent application of safety and operational procedures, and maintenance of good customer relations throughout all applicable service areas.

• Performs daily routine safety checks, and pre-trip inspections on assigned vehicle.
• Ensures all safety measures appropriate for operation of assigned vehicle are consistently and efficiently applied.
